2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Breaks A World Record for Fuel Economy Road Trip
Australian husband-and-wife team, John and Helen Taylor added another gas mileage world record to their list this month by driving through the lower 48 United States in a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI. Over the course of their 9500-mile trip, they achieved a record 67.9 mpg average.
We congratulate the Taylors, but we’re not surprised. Our long-term 2009 VW Jetta TDI has continued to amaze us with its fuel economy. We achieve milage into the forties on long trips without even trying, and it’s easy to imagine doing much better if we gave up our lead feet for a day or two. Even more impressive is that such an efficient car can still offer a fun and dynamic driving experience.
