Alfa Spider Tops 230 at Bonneville!

Jim Steck and the 230 mph Alfa Spider

Ladies and gentlemen, meet “Bonnie,” the world's fastest Alfa Spider. Built by Besic Motorsports and powered by a four-cylinder turbo engine built by Autocomponenti's Jim Steck, the Alfa set two different class records during the recently-completed 2009 Bonneville Speedweek.

After a disappointing 2008 effort, Richard Kreines' Chicago-based team was back in record-setting form this year. Rookie driver Bill Lightfoot re-set the G/BFMS (Blown Fuel Modified Sports) record at 225.839, while racer/engine builder Steck (above) destroyed his own existing 217.152 G/BGMS (Blown Gas Modified Sports) record with a two-way average speed of 230.352 mph.

Speedweek regulars since 1999, the team now has four class records to show for their efforts. Not bad for a bunch of sports car guys from the Midwest!
