Artega GT priced at nearly $120k

€74,983 ($118,353 USD) may sound like a lot of money to invest in something with a Volkswagen engine, but vintage Porschephiles understand that this shouldn’t be an immediate disqualifier.

In this case, that sum will get our European readers the thoroughly beautiful Artega GT , a voluptuous coupe powered by a 300-horsepower version of Veedub’s 3.6-liter V-6, an engine more commonly found in the Passat. One of Henrik Fisker’s more attractive designs in recent years, the Artega GT will come standard with VW’s lauded dual-clutch transmission, which should help the car run to 62 miles-per-hour in under 5 seconds and on to a top speed of 168 mph.

With just 500 GTs slated for production, we’re guessing that parent company Paragon will find enough eager takers willing to overlook the drivetrain’s plebian origins.

What do you think... will the Artega GT sell? Drop us a line in 'Comments.'

Given the current economic climate for selling cars I think it might be too expensive for some but not expensive exclusive enough for the ultra rich...
Hope I'm wrong but no - I don't think it'll sell well.

With out the petigree of the Porsche the most you can ask for the Artega GT is 70K.

For 118K dollars you are basically buying exclusivity with only a run of 500. You can get better performance for this amount of money, as well as an established dealer for the warrantee and support. It is a nice looking package, except for the huge frowning front intake, makes it look cartoonish, and certainly not as good looking as my first pick (see list). If it was my 118K, I would rather have: Aston Martin V8 Vantage (best looking car around), Porsche 911 S, or Cayman S, BMW M3/335i coupe, etc, etc. Or you can get two Corvette Z06's, or one ZR-1, or a Nissan GT-R if you like (that is if you don't pay the dealer mark-up). Sorry Artega, gotta look better or perform better to justify the price.

Good looking Automobile. Love, works of Art you can get in to and viscerally and tactilely experience. Hope they can get a few off in this new world economy. I see this car going to the very rich who just have to have something unique in their stable. In this day and age it is very hard to have exceptional performance. It's hard enough for some of the more expensive vehicles to run a way from vehicles that cost a fraction of the treasure that you have to spend for one (Chevy Cobalt SS and Corvette for example). Personally, I would use my Dollars for a Maseratti, which has a beautifully displayed and detailed engine and a historic pedigree. Besides, I just like the sound of the name.

That is obviously a rebadged Boxster S with an inferior engine. 0-62 in "under 5 seconds" for $120? It better be in the 3-4 second range for that price.

I was getting ready to figure out how to buy one until I saw that price tag. For $120,000 you can get a Ferrari 360 Modena instead of a car that looks like Hyundai got tired of copying Mercedes and decided to do a 360 Modena knock-off.

Or you could get an Audi R8 or a Porsche 911 GT3.

And those are proven brands offering cars with around 35% more power.

Any start-up car company needs to either be cheaper than the competition or they need to be better than the competition or they need to offer something exciting and different. If the Artega GT was electric, or it was a plug in hybrid like the Fisker Karma, they have a product. Otherwise, they need to cut the price in half.
