This here, friends, is the original 1967 Shelby GT500 SuperSnake. Yeah, there’s only one.
This Shelby has an aluminum headed 427 rated at 520 horsepower. The seller tells us that Carroll Shelby himself drove this car 500 miles at an average speed of 142 mph and was reportedly clocked at one point doing 170.
Shelby originally planned on producing 50 of the GT500 SuperSnake, but deemed them too expensive at the time.

The "Super Snake" moniker has me thinking of Unique Performance and its GT500E continuation Mustangs. For those unaware, Unique Performance is going under and police raided its main facility after reports came in that Unique Performance was replacing the VIN plates with new codes that were supposed to have fallen within the easier-to-get-into-than-Paris Hilton Shelby registry.
Unique's GT500E Super Snake featured a 725 hp supercharged aluminum 427 cu. in. V-8 mated to a Tremec 5 spd. gearbox, BF/Goodrich G-Force performancer tires, 17 in. wheels, aluminum side exhaust, and Koni shocks. Starting price was around $150,000, but jumped to $214,000 before the firm began to go under.

i mean, people pay 6 figures for stock mint condition '57 chevys, so why does that price seem surprising?
