Schumacher Wins Italian GP, Announces Retirement

schumacher-win.jpgMichael Schumacher took the checkered flag at the Italian Grand Prix, and then promptly announced that this season would be his last—the seven time Formula One champion is retiring.

Rumors of Schumacher's retirement announcement began to circulate last week, so it caught few off guard, but the departure of F1's biggest star is likely to take a toll on the sport.

But Schumacher, 37, isn't done just yet. His 90th career victory puts the heat on points-leader Fernando Alonso, bringing his Ferrari team to within two points of the top spot. The victory also gave Ferrari a three point advantage in the constructor's championship.

With just three races left in the season, the table could be set for Formula One's winningest driver to log his eighth championship.
