FutureWatch: BMW Six-Cylinder Models to be Equipped with Stop/Start Tech

BMW's Efficient Dynamics program has opted for the engine stop/start system, already equipped on the four-cylinder 1-Series and 3-Series, to be fitted onto BMW's six-cylinder models sometime next year. The system will appear on the 3-Series initially, with the 1-Series and 5-Series most likely following suit.

The stop/start system shuts down the engine when the car is at standstill idling away, and restarts it when the driver is ready to set off.

While the system is only planned for four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, it's very possible that the technology will extend to the V-8s as well. Also, since BMW four-banger models are finally hitting U.S. shores, they could very well come with the stop/start technology.

Which new Bimmers have 4 cylinders? Also, what runs the A/C when the engine is shut off?

@mena, they're planning to bring over 4 cylinder models into the US, right now they're only available in europe. You can run the A/C with the engine off - Ignition ON mode. You can get to it by not turning the key all the way, but past the electric mode.

I don't get the point of this system, it's only good if you stop for more than 30 seconds, other wise you waste more fuel starting it back up.

Start as Skinner powerleveling and a Herbalist powerleveling or Miner for a while to gather resources. You may have to travel to a main town to learn these powerleveling wow skills early - but its worth doing early.
Skinner as you will be killing many skinable mobs early on, and either powerleveling wow Herbalist or powerleveling wow Miner as the radar marker conflicts - you cant have both a Herbalist and Miner radar blip on. I have "toons" that are both Skinner, Herbalist and Skinner, Miner ... I think the coin generated is a little better as a Miner (esp as you get occ. gem drops in ore placements), but if you choose a dark-elf as a race go herbalist as the starting area has no mining resources - there may be an equivalent horde race !
