Report: New K.I.T.T. Will be a Shelby GT500KR
For those of you who haven’t yet heard, eighties mega-hit Knight Rider is making a return to the small screen, bringing with it the wise-cracking, smooth-talking, tractor trailer-jumping, sentient supercar, K.I.T.T.
But this time around, K.I.T.T. won’t spend his days encased in the form of a third-generation black Pontiac Firebird. No, the new K.I.T.T. has jumped from General Motors to Ford and picked up about 300 horsepower in the process.
The motorheads over at Jalopnik have managed to not only confirm from an inside source that the new Knight will be riding in a Shelby GT500KR Mustang, but they have the photos to prove it. Black with a pair of silver racing stripes, the new K.I.T.T. looks like a good fit for the 21st century, especially now that we see he kept his trademark oscillating red light bar.

So I'm assuming a Knight Rider Special Edition will make an appearance at dealerships shortly after? We're reaching special edition Mustang critical mass here, but I've got to admit the red light bar on the hood would be really cool in a really really dorky way.

Um, they don't make the WS6 anymore. I grew up watching it too, and a Mustang is not right for the part. How about a GTO? Too big? It's the only current GM that I can think of that might work. Black, tinted windows, and the red light bar :)

The GTO isn't made anymore, either. The closest sporty GM coupe I could see is the 'Vette. The Shelby just isn't right. But the 1980s Trans Ams weren't anything special in my eyes.

Shelby GT500 knight rider. They should have put the koeningsegg CCXR. The mustang has no power at all compared to the CCXR

That truly sucks. Talk about raping a show from the 80's I watch Knight Rider growing up, and not one time did I think, "gee, a ford mustang would be a better car." Kinda gives you an idea how bad this will suck, without even having to watch a show.

That is just sad. I will now boycott that show. Why didn't they use a real car like the new camaro? sheesh.

Guys guys...sheesh. The T/A is dead...the Camaro was in Transformers, they can't use it for K/R too! A Vette would have been better in my eyes, but who cares! It's gonna be a screaming 500 HP car show! Now, if only they can make production values as good as Top Gear with some good driving (Like Top Gear) it could be fun to watch. Of course if it handles as bad as Top Gear & Fifth Gear say it does, he won't be catching anybody but losers driving Impalas and Taurus' anyway!

if its not a pontiac it aint right i thank they should do it in at least a gto there still out there but what they really need to do is wait and use the new firebird thats coming out i dont thank kitt should be trans ams rivial car the mustang
