Brutal Irony: Aussie Police Using Hummers to Curb "Antisocial Behavior"

Police-livery Hummer H3

In the world of vehicular ironies, this one is right up there with “Ford Aspire.” According to an article in the Sydney Morning Herald, the local police in Melbourne’s nightclub district are being outfitted with Hummer H3s in order to help police officers curb “antisocial behavior.”

The idea behind the controversial move is that the five black Hummers (on six-month loan from General Motors) will allow constables to maintain a higher profile, with the idea being that greater visibility will help to deter potential troublemakers.

Aside from the special livery seen above, the Hummers have been equipped with special lights and radios, but their drivetrains remain factory-spec.
