Buyer's Guide: 2009 Jaguar XF

PROS
- Excellent automatic transmission with paddle shifters worth using
- Firm, stable ride and lively handling
- More than adequate power, though not in the boy-racer class

CONS
- Not as luxurious as you might imagine, not as sporty as it can seem
- Rear space limited
- Design -- inside and out -- not for everyone

SUMMARY
We very much enjoyed our time with the Jaguar XF. You should know however, if you plan a test drive, that it took us a few days to get the measure of this important car for Jag. That's because the XF is trying to do a lot of things -- be very stylish, luxurious and sporty. Like pretty much every car that tries to do a lot it succeeds in some areas and falls short in others. But, overall, we came a way with the feeling that Jaguar has delivered a very nicely balanced package.
