Lexus to Expand Line of F-Sport Performance Accessories to Include GS, IS-C and IS AWD

Good news for Lexus tuners: Lexus announced yesterday that it will expand its line of F-Sport Performance Accessories for the GS, IS-C, and IS AWD. The announcement corresponds with Lexus’ display of F-Sport equipped versions of those models at the Chicago Auto Show.

Among the new accessories are 19- and 20-inch alloy wheels, sway bars, brakes, lowering springs, performance clutch, performance exhaust, shifter, and floor mats.

Lexus Expands F-Sport Performance Accessories Line to Include Parts for GS, IS C and IS AWD Models

Torrance, Calif., February 11, 2009 -- Lexus today announced that it will expand its popular F-Sport Performance Accessories line. The luxury manufacturer launched its signature line of sport performance parts last spring with accessories for the IS 350 and IS 250 entry luxury sport sedans. The line will soon include F-Sport parts for the current generation GS luxury sport sedan, IS all-wheel drive (AWD), and the all-new IS C convertible coupe models. F-Sport equipped versions of the GS, IS and IS C will be on display at the Chicago Auto Show.

“F-Sport Accessories offer Lexus owners the ability to customize their vehicles to the next level of performance,” said Brian Bolain, Lexus national manager of marketing and lifecycle strategy. “Following last year’s successful launch of accessories for the IS 250 and 350 sport sedans, it was natural to expand the F-Sport accessories lineup to other Lexus performance models.”

The GS, IS AWD and IS C F-Sport accessories will include performance enhancing parts such as forged alloy wheels, brake upgrades, suspension systems, air intake, exhaust systems and more. Parts for these new models will be available as early as June 1, 2009.

F-Sport Performance Accessories by Lexus USA are engineered by Toyota Racing Development (TRD). When installed by an authorized dealer, the accessories are fully warranted for 12 months or for the balance of the new car warranty, whichever is greater.

F-Sport 18 and 19-inch Forged Alloy Wheels

The F-Sport forged alloy wheels, exclusively designed in a dark graphite finish, not only add an aggressive look to the exterior, but help enhance performance through increased strength and decreased weight. The F-Sport wheels require the use of spline-drive lug nuts, which are included in the available Wheel Installation Kit.

F-Sport Front Brake Upgrade

The Front Brake Upgrade provides a firmer pedal feel and improved fade resistance in repeated severe-duty use. The Brake Upgrade features six-piston fixed calipers and drilled cast-iron rotors with a patented internal-fin design mounted on anodized aluminum hubs. Braided stainless-steel brake lines and low-dust performance brake pads are included, and the upgrade can be used with stock or the F-Sport Rear Brake Upgrade.

F-Sport Rear Brake Upgrade

Similar in construction to the F-Sport Front Brake Upgrade, the Rear Brake Upgrade uses four-piston fixed calipers and drilled cast-iron rotors. Braided stainless-steel brake lines and low-dust performance brake pads are also included. The Rear Brake Upgrade may only be used in conjunction with F-Sport Front Brake Upgrade.

F-Sport Shock Absorber Set

Developed in cooperation with Bilstein® and available exclusively through the F-Sport Performance Accessory program, this shock-absorber set offers sport-tuned suspension dampening without sacrificing ride quality.

F-Sport Lowering Spring Set

This feature lowers the vehicle approximately one inch in the front and rear for a more aggressive appearance and a lower center of gravity. The spring set is engineered to deliver lowered ride height without bottoming out or creating a harsh ride. The sets will be specifically configured for each model and can be used with either the stock or F-Sport Shock Absorber Set.

F-Sport Sway Bar Set

The sway bar set includes larger diameter replacement front-and-rear sway bars that reduce body sway and flatten cornering. Oil-impregnated rubber bushings are also included to replace the original rubber bushings. Each vehicle’s sway bar set is specifically configured to achieve the best performance.

F-Sport Rear Chassis Member Brace

To improve chassis stiffness under aggressive driving conditions and provide a more responsive feel during cornering, the F-Sport Rear Chassis Member Brace joins key rear-chassis and suspension mounting points through this tubular steel brace.

F-Sport Performance Exhaust System

This system features all stainless-steel construction with fully polished mufflers and double-wall exhaust tips. In addition to an outstanding appearance, it delivers a powerful, sport-tuned exhaust sound while complying with established sound-level standards and does not affect emissions compliance.

F-Sport Performance Air Intake

This low-restriction intake and filter assembly is fully compatible with stock engine controls and is emission legal in all 50 states.

F-Sport Carbon Fiber Engine Cover

Constructed from real carbon fiber, this light-weight, durable engine cover provides a high-tech appearance under the hood. This is a direct replacement for the original cover.

F-Sport Performance ClutchSet

The F-Sport Performance Clutch Set, available for the IS 250 and IS 250C equipped with the manual transmission, increases clamping force approximately 16 percent to handle higher torque capacity and provide improved feel.

F-Sport Quick Shifter

Engineered and machined from billet aluminum, the F-Sport Quick Shifter for the manual-transmission equipped IS 250 and IS 250C decreases shift throw by approximately 35 percent for quicker and more positive shifting.

Chicago 2009: Acura TSX Gets V-6 Power For 2010

If you discuss the TSX with the Acura product planners, they say that it directly competes with the likes of BMW's 3-Series and the Audi A4. We've often referred to the TSX as a sort of "entry-level luxury car," because it's four-cylinder power and front-drive-only setup always left a little to be desired when our minds pondered over premium sport sedans.

However, we now have a reason to start taking the Acura folks seriously in their claim. For 2010, the TSX will be outfitted with an optional 3.5-liter V-6 engine, producing 280 horsepower. Sadly, this engine will only run through Acura's five-speed automatic, and front-wheel drive will be the only available drivetrain. Additional new features for the V-6 TSX include eighteen-inch wheels, and a double-wishbone front and multilink rear suspension. A V-6 badge will be slapped onto the trunk, but a slightly revised front fascia will set this TSX apart from its four-banger brethren.

Acura debuted an all-new V-6 model for its TSX sports sedan line-up at the Chicago Auto Show today. Scheduled to go on sale this summer, the 2010 TSX V-6 will be equipped with a powerful 3.5-liter engine, exclusive suspension tuning, larger diameter wheels and additional enhancements.

"The automotive market may be slowing down, but not Acura," said Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales. "With improved acceleration and handling, the new 280 horsepower V-6 adds even more sport to the already sporty nature of the popular TSX sports sedan."

Since its redesign last year, the TSX has shattered sales records to become one of Acura's best-selling sedans. As the entry point to the Acura brand, the four-cylinder TSX has won over customers with its nimble handling, agile driving feel and balanced performance. The V-6 model adds a new level of power on top of these winning traits for a more sporty and spirited driving experience. The V-6 will surely satisfy driving enthusiast's appetite for a fun-to-drive, yet refined sports sedan.

With the introduction of a V-6 powered TSX, Acura will fill a niche in its lineup between the four-cylinder TSX and the all-new TL performance luxury sedan. With the TL moving more upscale following its redesign in the 2009 model year, the TSX V-6 will be aimed squarely at youthful buyers who want a performance-oriented sports sedan in a more personal size.

Powertrain
A new TSX powertrain choice means performance luxury buyers can enjoy a 280 horsepower 3.5L V-6, with sophisticated VTEC® valvetrain control and a dual-stage induction system. For maximum performance and efficiency, the engine will be coupled to Acura's Sequential SportShift automatic transmission, with intelligent features such as Grade Logic Control and Shift Hold Control. If the driver desires, the Sequential SportShift transmission can also be operated manually, via steering-wheel mounted F1®-style paddle shifters.

Body/Chassis
The new TSX model will feature a state-of-the-art, double-wishbone front and multilink rear suspension system to provide excellent ride, handling and control. To generate sportier handling, the V-6 model will also use exclusive suspension tuning along with 18-inch split five-spoke aluminum wheels, fit with Michelin Pilot all-season tires. The larger wheels and tires will help distinguish this performance- minded TSX, as does the slightly revised front fascia and a V-6 badge on the trunk.
The TSX V-6 model will be generously equipped with the latest advancements in safety technology and is anticipated to achieve the highest ratings in both government (NHTSA)* and independent (IIHS) crash testing - including garnering IIHS's TOP SAFETY PICK.

Interior
Like all Acura models, the new TSX will feature an exceptional level of standard equipment, including leather-appointed interior, power moonroof, automatic climate control, a premium seven-speaker sound system with CD, AM/FM tuner, XM® Satellite Radio, Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® , USB port and AUX jack music interface and more.

Similar to the four-cylinder TSX, the V-6 model will be available with the optional Technology Package that includes the Acuralink™ satellite navigation system with rear-view camera and the Acura/ELS Surround® premium audio system for a top-in-class audio experience.

The introduction of the TSX V-6 at the Chicago Auto Show is the first step in a series of major advancements to the 2010 Acura lineup. Almost every Acura sedan and SUV will receive significant enhancements for the 2010 model year.

Chicago 2009: Hyundai's Track-Ready Genesis Coupe R-Spec

Ah, the Genesis Coupe. Today seems to be full of news regarding Hyundai's new pride-and-joy sports car. To further show that Hyundai is dead serious about the two-door Genesis being a performance car, they have now unveiled a new R-Spec edition, complete with nineteen-inch gunmetal alloy wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza rubber (225/40YR19 up front, 245/40YR19 out back). Additionally, the braking system has been upgraded, and the R-Spec will use Brembo discs measuring 13.4 inches up front and 13.0 inches at the rear.

Powering the R-Spec will be the base Coupe's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, good for 210 horsepower, a top speed of 137 miles per hour, and the ability to achieve 30 miles per gallon on the highway. A limited-slip differential and a track-tuned suspension will also be standard fare on this tuned up Genny.

Pricing for the R-Spec has been set at $23,750, which is $3000 less than the high-grade 2.0T Track model. Hyundai says that this will allow customers to have a bit of cash leftover for their own tuning needs. Click through for Hyundai's press release with the full R-Spec details.

Hyundai Debuts a HIGH–PERFOMANCE BLANK canvas for tuners: GENESIS COUPE R-SPEC

Chicago 2009: Up Close And Personal With The 2010 Kia Forte

The Kia Spectra has packed its bags and is making way for the new 2010 Forte sedan. We wouldn't count on seeing a five-door variant of the Forte (to replace the Spectra5) simply because Kia is hoping that their new Soul fills that segment. Still, the Forte looks a whole lot better than the outgoing Spectra, and only time will tell if it can run with the Honda Civics and Mazda3s of the world.

Chicago 2009: Nissan Cube Lookin' Edgy On The Show Floor

Fans of the original Scion xB and upcoming Kia Soul are surely thrilled to learn that the Nissan Cube will be hitting North American dealerships in just a few months. Powered by a 1.8-liter inline-four, the Cube (like the other cars in its segment) will provide excellent fuel economy with the ability to haul copious amounts of people and things.

Nissan gave us the inside scoop about the new Cube Krom yesterday, and they mentioned that the whole Cube line will start at under $14,000. We're excited, and you should be, too. In that spirit, here's a gallery of the U.S.-spec Nissan Cube, complete with some live shots of the Krom, too.

Seems like just yesterday when we took our first drive in the first-generation Miata, but alas, our little baby is all grown up, and for it's big Two-Zero, Mazda has gone and refreshed the MX-5 with a new fascia, some new tuning, and a wider range of color and interior choices.

Chicago 2009: Hyundai Genesis Coupe Formula Drift Car

Hyundai indeed made a big splash this year during the Super Bowl with their Genesis Coupe advertisements. The car was flogged around a track by drift champion Rhys Millen, and today, Hyundai has announced that Millen will be their star driver in their motorsports program, piloting a 550-horsepower Genesis Coupe. This car is set to participate in events such as the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, the Formula Drift Professional Drifting Championship, and will appear at select Redline Time Attack events.

This race-ready Genesis Coupe has been stripped to the bone, outfitted with special eighteen-inch wheels, and the body panels have all been constructed out of carbon fiber. In doing this, the Hyundai folks aimed to keep the car's curb weight around 2400 pounds. The power source is based on the Genesis Coupe's 3.8-liter V-6, though displacement has been boosted to 4.1 liters and a large turbocharger has been added. Total output is now 550 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque, making this one super quick Genesis.

HYUNDAI LAUNCHES rHYS mILLEN RACING RED BULL drift TEAM SPONSORSHIP AT CHICAGO AUTO SHOW

CHICAGO, Feb. 11, 2009 – With enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the upcoming launch of the 2010 Genesis Coupe, Hyundai is adding to the excitement by teaming with Rhys Millen Racing and Red Bull Energy Drink to campaign the car in the high-energy sport of drift racing this year.

At the Chicago Auto Show, Hyundai unveiled its motorsports program in the U.S. with the help of drift champion Rhys Millen, who will fabricate and race a 550-horsepower Genesis Coupe in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, the Formula Drift Professional Drifting Championship and at select Redline Time Attack series events in 2009.

“Today’s announcement puts the Genesis Coupe into three great motorsports series,” said John Krafcik, acting president and CEO, Hyundai Motor America. “We like to refer to the Genesis Coupe as the sinister sibling to the North American Car of the Year, the Genesis sedan and we look forward to Rhys harnessing every ounce of energy in the Coupe as he campaigns it.”

Millen and his team are an ideal match to launch Hyundai’s racing efforts. Millen’s driving credentials include movie stunts, multiple drifting championships, a Pikes Peak world record and his recent New Year's Eve Las Vegas truck flip. But behind Millen’s success in the driver’s seat is a full team of engineers and fabricators that know how to maximize the potential of a race car.

Millen had his first opportunity to test drive the Genesis Coupe’s performance credentials when he performed precision driving for the car’s debut advertising campaign. Millen flogged a Genesis Coupe for three days during the filming process at Road Atlanta racetrack, and the car never missed a beat.

“The Genesis Coupe Concept inspired me to seek out a relationship with Hyundai and it has developed into multiple projects,” said Millen, professional race driver and founder of RMR. “The immediate focus is developing the RMR Red Bull Hyundai Genesis Coupe into a drift car with a 550-horsepower engine and a lightweight, rigid chassis. We are applying everything we know about fabricating into building this car.”

THE CHASSIS BUILD

Six RMR employees have already stripped a Genesis Coupe to bare metal and the chassis has spent five days in an Alkali bath removing all rubber and adhesives. The chassis has also been stitch welded for added structural rigidity.

CARBON FIBER BODY PANELS

           Millen quickly decided to take the already light weight Genesis Coupe and make it even lighter. His crew will take the molds used to build the “Art of Speed” SEMA car to once again replicate the Genesis Coupe’s body out of carbon fiber. The hood, deck lid, roof, doors, fenders, front fascia and side skirts are all built out of carbon fiber. The carbon fiber panels range from 50 percent to 80 percent lighter than the sheet metal they replaced. For example, a factory Hyundai Genesis Coupe door weighs 68 pounds but modifications made by RMR reduce the door weight to just 8.5 pounds. This weight-saving approach is carried throughout the car without compromising its powerful curves, surface detail and “Z” bodyside line.

The side skirts have functional flat rocker panels with ducts to pull air out from underneath the car. A functional splitter on the front fascia and a built-in diffuser create pressure without drag. A rear diffuser with long tunnels keeps the air moving underneath the car. Downforce has been further increased by an APR GTC-500 rear wing that is fully adjustable and was designed using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis. The hood is vented to dissipate heat and Aerocatch hood latches are used for safety.

           The rear widebody fenders are also made out of carbon fiber and blend seamlessly into the vehicle design with a creative painting concept. The goal curb for the car is 2,400 pounds.

INTERIOR

The interior of the RMR Red Bull Hyundai Genesis Coupe is unrecognizable from its origins as a well-appointed 2+2 coupe designed with everyday driving in mind. All comfort and convenience features are removed to make way for a custom-fabricated eight-point safety cage and firewall which reinforce the Genesis Coupe’s already stiff chassis. By removing the roof, the RMR fabricators welded every aspect of the safety cage to the frame of the car. The braces on the A and B pillars also tie into the strength of the body. The safety cage is required for racing and a single Sparco racing seat further protects the driver in the overhauled cockpit.

SUSPENSION

           The RMR Red Bull Hyundai Genesis Coupe utilizes a KW remote reservoir three-way adjustable coilover suspension. Adjustable chro-moly sway bars dial the suspension in further for true track performance. RMR also fabricated adjustable lower control arms, rear control arms and toe links to allow precise tuning of the chassis.

ENGINE AND TURBO KIT

           The Hyundai Lambda 3.8-liter V6 engine, which comes standard on the Genesis Coupe 3.8, will be stroked to 4.1-liters and further enhanced by a Turbonetics turbocharger. An AEM engine management system will also be used. The engine will be mated to a HKS sequential transmission. The end result is a Genesis Coupe that will produce 550 horsepower and 520 lb.-ft. of torque.

WHEELS, TIRES AND BRAKES

           To ensure that the enhanced power plant translates all the way to road performance, RMR added 18- by 8.5-inch front and 18- by 9.5-inch rear Enkei RPF1 light weight wheels and 225/40-18 Toyo Proxes R1R front tires and 265/40 Toyo Proxes R1R rear tires.

PAINT SCHEME

           The paint scheme is a combination of blue, silver and unpainted black carbon fiber with its signature weave pattern.

           With more than 16 years of racing experience, Rhys Millen has established himself as one of the premier rally/drifting drivers in North America. Born in New Zealand in 1972, Rhys is the son of famed rally and off-road racer Rod Millen. Ford has already released the details about the 2010 Taurus SHO. The car's twin-turbo V-6 with 365 horsepower should surely be a hit, especially with the large crowd of SHO enthusiasts around the country. Additionally, a tuned suspension and torque-sensing all-wheel drive system will make this SHO pretty fun to drive, and with a starting price under $40,000, we're hoping they sell like hotcakes.

Chicago 2009: Ford Gives Five Businesses Their Own Transit Connects

Ford's latest entry into the North American commercial vehicle segment, the Transit Connect, will be available for individuals to purchase in just a few months. To get the ball rolling, Ford went ahead and dolled up some Transits for five small businesses around the country.

Small business owners were asked to write Ford and tell them the ways in which they think that the Transit Connect would be useful not only for their specific business, but for the entire commercial vehicle marketplace. Winners were chosen, decals were applied, and the vans were outfitted specifically for the needs that these five small businesses have.

Chicago 2009: So Long, Spectra! Kia Debuts 2010 Forte Sedan

The Kia Spectra and Spectra5 may be good contenders for the small car segment, but their design is running a bit long in the tooth and the interior refinement isn't as nice as new products from Ford or Honda. Thus, Kia has scrapped the Spectra -- literally -- and are presenting the all-new 2010 Forte which will go on sale around June.

Three trim levels will be available: LX, EX, and SX. The two base models will be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine good for 156 horsepower and 144 pound-feet of torque, while the SX will use a 2.4-liter engine with 173 horsepower, besting the Toyota Corolla and Mazda3. The LX and EX will use five-speed manual and four-speed automatic transmissions, while the SX will be standard with a six-speed stick or a five-speed auto.

In true Kia fashion, the Forte offers a host of standard interior amenities, especially on the upper trim levels. EX and SX models come stocked with power locks/windows, remote entry, air conditioning, steering-mounted audio controls, and cruise control. The SX adds a telescopic steering wheel and sport cloth seats with red accents.

CHICAGO, Feb. 11, 2009 – On the heels of announcing the widely acclaimed, all-new Kia Soul, Kia Motors America (KMA) today introduced the all-new 2010 Kia Forte (pronounced for-tay) compact sedan at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show. Forte blends Kia's exciting new design direction under the tutelage of Peter Schreyer, Kia Motors' chief design officer, with a multitude of standard features. The 2010 Kia Forte will go on sale in North America in late spring or early summer of 2009.

Style in Motion
Sporting stylish and aggressive design cues, the new Forte firmly establishes itself as a strong contender in its segment. With a bold look set apart by crisp lines, swept-back headlamps and a sleek profile, Forte exudes a confident stance that conveys motion both while cruising the highway and parked in the driveway. Available in three trim levels (LX, EX and SX), Forte offers a sleek, sophisticated design. The sportier SX trim offers a more athletic profile with 17-inch alloy wheels paired with P215/45R17-sized premium tires and a rear spoiler.

Smooth and Comfortable Ride
With a wheelbase of 104.3 inches, an overall length of 178.3 inches, an overall width of 69.9 inches and overall height of 57.5 inches, Forte offers one of the roomiest interiors in its class with seating for up to five passengers. The Kia-engineered body achieves high torsional stiffness giving Forte better handling, smoother ride quality and greater refinement than its competitors, with a specially tuned suspension adjusted perfectly for responsive handling on curvy roads. Additional refinements are fitted throughout Forte to help ensure a comfortable ride with good noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) reduction qualities.

Built on a front-wheel-drive unibody frame, Forte utilizes an independent front suspension with MacPherson struts and a stabilizer bar and a torsion beam rear suspension with struts and coil springs. This combination helps provide the optimal balance of handling and comfort. An engine-speed-sensitive, power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering system adds the finishing touch for precise handling by providing the most advantageous amount of assist for varying road conditions. In keeping with the sporty essence of the SX model line, a sport-tuned suspension gives the chassis a firmer feel and responsiveness resulting in a sportier and more spirited ride. The SX model also features larger front brakes for improved stopping capabilities.

Attractive and Practical Interior
Forte boasts a class-leading 96.8 cubic feet of passenger volume, while driver and passengers have an impressive 40.0 inches of headroom and 43.3 inches of legroom in the front seats and 37.8 inches of headroom and 35.0 inches of legroom in the rear seats. Forte's trunk also offers an impressive 14.7 cubic feet of cargo space, one of the largest in its class, perfect for luggage for weekend getaways.

Capitalizing on its spacious interior, Forte pampers its riders with a host of interior features, starting with comfortable, nicely appointed full cloth seats. A six-way adjustable driver's seat, tilt steering column, rear defroster and dual 12-volt power outlets in the center console are driver- and passenger-conscious luxuries standard on every vehicle.

EX and SX models offer a number of additional standard luxurious touches such as: power windows and door locks; remote keyless entry; air conditioning; map lamps; steering wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls; dual front and rear cup holders; and floor mats. Forte EX and SX models also include standard cruise control with an optional sunroof and leather-trimmed seats. Peppy Performance
Forte LX and EX are powered by a 2.0-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine, producing 156 horsepower and 144 pound-feet of torque, that features Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) and multi-port electronic fuel injection, both of which provide for greater performance and fuel economy. The SX features an upgraded 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine, also with CVVT, which delivers 173 horsepower – more than the most powerful versions of the Toyota Corolla or even the 2010 Mazda3.

Two transmission options are offered for the 2010 Forte: a standard five-speed manual transmission or an optional electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission (LX and EX models). The SX model features a standard six-speed manual transmission and an optional five-speed automatic transmission with Sportmatic®.

The optional Fuel Economy Package, available with the 2.0-liter powerplant, will include the five-speed automatic transmission, Motor Drive Power Steering and low-rolling resistance tires with aero enhancements. These improvements result in class-leading combined fuel economy of 36 mpg (highway).

Music that Moves
Forte comes with a standard four speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system outfitted with SIRIUS Satellite Radio capabilities with three months complimentary service. Standard on all models is an auxiliary audio input jack and USB port for connecting personal MP3 players. Standard Bluetooth® connectivity enables hands-free operation for compatible cell phones. For true audiophiles, the EX and SX packages also add a standard six speaker surround audio system and steering wheel controls.

Chicago 2009: Ford Revives The Taurus SHO For 2010

After years of hearing enthusiasts beg for its return, Ford has finally unveiled its all-new Taurus SHO, bringing back fond memories for the loyal group of drivers who really love this car. In its last iteration, the SHO used a Yamaha V-8 and was only offered in front-wheel drive, but this latest 2010 Taurus SHO will be offered with a twin-turbocharged Ecoboost V-6 paired with all-wheel drive. The powertrain is a slightly altered version of Ford's standard 3.5-liter Ecoboost six, but a few more ponies have been tweaked out, resulting in a total of 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. What's more, this whole package will be available starting at just $37,995.

While the SHO only offers ten more horsepower than a standard-spec Taurus, Ford has tuned the suspension system and revised the AWD mechanics, making it a sportier drive overall. Early SHO enthuasists will be sad to hear that no manual transmission is available, but Ford has revised the six-speed manu-matic for the SHO, and vehicles equipped with the optional Performance Package will have a short 3.16:1 final drive ratio. Other Performance Pack goodies include twenty-inch painted aluminum wheels and Goodyear Eagle F1 tires, upgraded brake pads, and a sport mode for the AdvanceTrac electronic stability control system.

Naturally, Ford will be shoveling all of its other technological and comfort features into the SHO, making it a pretty decent bargain at under $40k (and making the Lincoln MKS somewhat of a head-scratcher by comparison). CHICAGO, Feb. 11, 2009 – One of America’s favorite “sleeper” performance cars returns to the Ford lineup, powered by a Super High Output (SHO) EcoBoost twin turbocharged engine.
The Taurus SHO joins Ford’s growing lineup of performance vehicles for the 2010 model year, building on the legacy of the original, which earned a spot on the Car and Driver 10Best list four years running.

“The new Taurus SHO delivers on the authentic sleeper sedan formula but adds all-new luxury-appointments, convenience features and technologies to an unsurpassed balance of power and fuel economy,” said Mark Fields, Ford’s president of The Americas. “This new sport derivative answers enthusiasts’ calls for a premium Ford flagship sedan with even more attitude.”

Introduced in 1989, Taurus SHO was conceived as a discreet performance-oriented sports sedan, ideally suited to the automotive enthusiast needing the room and capability of a four-door full-size car. Produced through 1999, more than 100,000 were sold.

The original Taurus SHO generated a loyal following of owners and enthusiasts, with an active club more than 1,000 members strong, an online forum with more than 10,000 registered users and a Web site (bringbackthesho.com) specifically devoted to convincing Ford to resurrect the SHO. The 2010 Taurus product development team spent significant time listening to SHO enthusiasts.

EcoBoost™ Twin-Turbocharged Power
The foundation of the new 2010 Taurus SHO is a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost
V-6 engine. This advanced powerplant generates an estimated 365 horsepower at 5,500 rpm
and 350 ft.-lbs. of torque at 3,500 rpm, resulting in significantly improved power, torque and fuel economy compared with larger, normally aspirated engines. This also is Ford’s most powerful EcoBoost engine.

A key feature of this EcoBoost engine is gasoline direct injection. The direct injection of fuel into the cylinder during the intake stroke, as opposed to port-style injection to an externally mounted intake, produces a well-mixed air-fuel charge. Fuel vaporization during the intake stroke cools the incoming air, improving volumetric efficiency and lowers the likelihood of knock.

The results are improved throttle response, reduced cold start emissions characteristics and improved fuel economy. The cooled charge enables an increased compression ratio, improving efficiency at partial load, while the higher compression ratio allows for better volumetric efficiency under full load engine behavior. Customers will experience normally aspirated
V-8 power, without compromising V-6 fuel economy.

The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 also uses twin turbochargers, as opposed to a single unit.
The reduced size of each turbocharger results in reduced internal inertia, allowing this advanced engine to avoid the “turbo lag” often prevalent in earlier-generation turbocharged applications.
From the driver’s seat, the rewarding result is linear power delivery across a broad torque band from 1,500 through 5,500 rpm. Peak torque building quickly off idle ensures responsive acceleration from a standing start.

SelectShift with paddle controls and All-Wheel Drive
The new Taurus SHO driveline combines a high-capacity six-speed 6F55 SelectShift transmission with a sophisticated torque-sensing All-Wheel Drive System. These components work in harmony to deliver ample traction when putting EcoBoost power on the road. The
six-speed transmission offers a wide array of gears to enable spirited acceleration, yet comfortable high-speed cruising, through a 2.77 to 1 final drive ratio.

SelectShift provides conventional automatic operation or a manual shift mode that gives the driver complete control over gear selection. For performance-minded drivers, paddle controls allow “match-rev” downshifts and will hold manually selected gears for precise control. Intuitively operated, a squeeze on either paddle will deliver an economical upshift under acceleration, while a gentle push forward brings a smooth downshift, synchronizing the engine and transmission speeds for responsive and positive engagement.

The Taurus SHO driveline is contemporized with the incorporation of a sophisticated All-Wheel Drive System that engages automatically and unobtrusively. The unit contains an advanced array of internal electromechanical clutches to efficiently distribute torque to the wheels with optimum traction. Standard all-wheel drive allows the Taurus SHO to efficiently deliver its high performance to the pavement under a wide variety of conditions.

“Taurus SHO suspension and steering have been sport-tuned to provide discriminating drivers with precise control, confident handling, communicative feedback and a compliant ride,” said Pete Reyes, Taurus chief engineer.

Taurus SHO features an advanced electronic power-assisted steering (EPAS) system, providing responsive road feel and enhanced on-center balance while offering the additional benefit of increased fuel economy. SHO also features a sport-tuned suspension with unique shock absorbers, springs, stabilizer bars and strut mount bushings specifically developed and harmonized to deliver the highest level of Ford DNA road holding, cornering agility and steering responsiveness available in a Blue Oval full-size sedan.

Taurus SHO takes full advantage of the multi-link SR1 rear suspension design. Named for the 1:1 shock absorber ratio, this configuration provides an inherently stable baseline for the SHO development team to fine tune for enhanced driver control and agility. In addition, the SR1 rear suspension geometry provides increased travel, while enabling the use of 19- and 20-inch wheels and tires.

For the discriminating automotive enthusiast, Taurus SHO offers an available SHO Performance Package consisting of upgraded brake pads, recalibrated EPAS for even more responsiveness,
a “Sport Mode” setting for the standard AdvanceTrac® Electronic Stability Control and a shorter 3.16 to 1 final drive ratio for faster acceleration. Summer-compound 20-inch Goodyear Eagle F1 performance tires on premium painted wheels also are included.

SHO Specific Subtlety
A key element of the authentic SHO formula is the subtlety of its unique exterior design cues.
Features include sporty premium painted wheels, wrapped in standard low-profile 19-inch Goodyear Eagle or optional 20-inch Michelin high-performance tires, a decklid-mounted spoiler and twin chrome exhaust tips. SHO also features a uniquely finished interpretation of the Ford signature three-bar grille with SHO-specific parking lamp bezels.

“Taurus SHO was always a stealth high-performance car,” said Earl Lucas, exterior design manager. “The new SHO builds on the expressive design of the 2010 Taurus, adding subtle cues that set it apart.”

The 2010 SHO is available in a wide range of new Taurus colors including Atlantis Green Metallic, a unique SHO color inspired by the iconic Deep Emerald Green hue appearing in 1991.

The new Taurus SHO interior encourages performance driving. Leather-trimmed seats with Miko Suede inserts, made from recycled post-consumer yarns from plastic soft drink bottles,
are comfortable and luxurious. A perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel puts the driver in smooth touch with the road. Front seats are 10-way power adjustable. SHO accelerator and brake pedals are trimmed in aluminum. The console, instrument and door panels feature
SHO-specific authentic aluminum appliqués. SHO branding appears on the unique floor mats, and on the passenger side of the instrument panel.

Taurus SHO: Performance and Convenience
The 2010 Taurus SHO offers an impressive array of standard convenience features as well as optional features and content. Standard Taurus SHO amenities include:

Intelligent Access with Push Button Start, a new Taurus feature allowing drivers to enter the car and start the engine without using a conventional key. Drivers simply carry the fob as they approach the vehicle, touch the SecuriCode™ keyless entry keypad, open the door and enter, apply pressure on brake pedal and push a button to start the engine.

MyKey allows enthusiasts to activate a restricted driving mode, persistent Belt-Minder® safety belt reminder, audio system volume limits, an earlier low-fuel warning, and consistently-engaged AdvanceTrac® stability control. The top vehicle speed can be limited to 80 mph, and speed chimes can be programmed to engage at 45, 55 or 65 mph further protecting their investment.

Easy Fuel™ Capless Fuel Filler System, a unique feature that eliminates the need for a traditional fuel cap. Easy Fuel is a hassle-free solution that provides a consistent self-seal after every refueling.

Ford SYNC® is the fully integrated, in-vehicle voice-activated communications and entertainment system standard on Taurus SHO. The system combines 911 Assist, Vehicle Health Report and GPS-based features including business search and call completion.
SYNC connects to MP3 players, iPods, memory sticks and PDAs. The latest version of SYNC in the Taurus SHO adds Traffic, Directions and Information, providing turn-by-turn route guidance and the capability to access and personalize content.

Ambient Lighting allows the Taurus SHO driver to program interior lighting from a choice of five soothing colors to suit any character or preference.

The 2010 Taurus SHO comes standard with the full array of active and passive safety equipment and features offered across the Taurus range.

Available options on the 2010 Taurus SHO include:

Reverse Camera System, a unique SHO option, activates when reverse gear is selected providing the driver with additional rear visibility, projecting on the windscreen mounted rearview mirror.

Adaptive Cruise Control, which allows the driver to set the Taurus SHO cruising speed while using radar technology to monitor traffic travelling up to 600 feet ahead, automatically adjusting speed to help maintain a preset distance between vehicles. Adaptive Cruise Control comes with Collision Warning with Brake Support providing visible and audible warnings when slower traffic is detected ahead. Brake support is activated if the driver does not respond to provided warnings, and pre-charges the brake system to prepare the vehicle for stopping.

Blind Spot Information System (BLIS™) with Cross Traffic Alert consists of two multiple beam radar modules, one each per rear quarter panel. When an adjacent vehicle enters the defined blind spot zone, and indicator alert provides driver warning in the corresponding sideview mirror.
Cross Traffic Alert uses existing BLIS radar modules to sense oncoming traffic while the Taurus SHO is slowly backed from a parking space. When cross traffic appears within three car widths, the system provides a visible message on the instrument panel in combination with a sideview mirror warning and an audible signal.

Multi-Contour Seats with Active Motion™ can be specified in conjunction with heated and cooled first-row positions in the new Taurus SHO. Multi-Contour functionality provides subtle but continuous massage to help prevent back pain and fatigue and is ideally suited to meet the needs of long-distance drivers.

Voice-Activated Navigation System includes a 10 GB music juke box hard drive and a single CD/DVD player. When combined with the optional rear camera system, rearview projection appears on the centerstack-mounted navigation screen.

Sony Audio System offers 12 speakers, a digital amplifier, 390 Watts of continuous power (RMS), 115 dB of maximum bass sound pressure level and Dolby® Pro Logic® II surround technology.

The 2010 Taurus SHO will be built at Ford’s Chicago (Ill.) assembly plant and will be available in dealerships this summer, starting at a base price of $37,995, including destination.

Chicago 2009: Nissan Cube To Start At $13,990, New Krom Model Revealed

North American customers will be able to go out and buy the new Nissan Cube this May, and we've now learned that the Scion-fighting box car will be priced at an extremely reasonable $13,990, undercutting the Honda Fit and Scion xD. Under the hood will be a 1.8-liter engine borrowed from the Versa, though the Cube's edgy looks (no pun intended) will surely be a hit with a different crowd of buyers.

Additionally, Nissan will offer a special edition called the Cube Krom which will have more than forty different accessories available, including interior illumination in twenty different color choices, "shag carpeting" instrument panel inserts, and custom sixteen-inch alloy wheels. Additionally, different front and rear fascias will set the Krom apart from the standard Cubes on the road, and interior amenities like an upgraded audio system, Bluetooth, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and woven black/gray seats will truly make it the premium choice in the Cube segment.

NISSAN ANNOUNCES 2009 CUBE®, CUBE® STARTING PRICE OF $13,990 AND ACCESSORIES PROGRAM

(NNA) today announced that the all-new 2009 Nissan cube® 1.8 will feature a starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP)* of $13,990 when it goes on sale in early May. Nissan also debuted a specialty vehicle model – the cube® 1.8 Kr?m. The new cube® Kr?m, developed by NNA's new Specialty Vehicles Group, features exclusive exterior and interior treatments, elevating cube®'s unique styling to a sportier, more aggressive dimension. The 2009 Nissan cube® will now be offered in four versions, cube® 1.8, cube® 1.8 S, cube® 1.8 SL and cube® 1.8 Kr?m.

In addition, Nissan announced that the cube will be available with more than 40 individual accessories, ranging from a unique 20-color interior illumination kit and "shag carpeting" instrument panel inserts to aerodynamic body kits and custom 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels – allowing cube owners to personalize their vehicles to reflect their own tastes and personalities.

A new "Reserve Your cube" program, which allows consumers to research and reserve the cube of their choice, will begin later in the month, following the release of complete cube model and option package pricing.

A "Personalized" Approach to Accessories
Inside and out, the new Nissan cube offers an inspiring canvas for personalization. A centerpiece of the new cube's appeal is its "social space" interior that offers room for five in a lounge-like comfort. Along with its open occupant space, "floating meter pod" driver's area and "lounge sofa" style sliding and reclining rear bench seat, the cube interior is available with a long list of innovative accessories.

Among the items designed to accentuate cube's unique design approach are "shag dash topper" instrument panel inserts, which fit into the top center of the instrument panel; "Front Door Bungees," which are colorful elastic straps that slip into cutouts on the door armrests to secure items such as maps and photos; and an Interior Illumination Kit, which provides a changeable 20-color palette of accent lighting under the instrument panel and in the center console cupholder.

Chicago 2009: Ford Reveals The 2010 F-150 Harley-Davidson

We've packed our bags and are ready to head out for the 2009 Chicago Auto Show. But before we put on our sunglasses and hit the open road, it's only fitting that another embargo would break before the McCormick Place doors open. Ford introduced their 2009 F-150 just a few months ago, and we now have the first special edition of their all-new truck: the 2010 F-150 Harley-Davidson. This vehicle marks the fourteenth Harley-Davidson collaboration with the Ford F-Series, though for 2010, the modifications aren't as impressive as in years past.

In the F-150's last generation, the Harley-Davidson edition featured a supercharged V-8 engine, but for 2010, Ford's naturally-aspirated 5.4-liter V-8 is the only powertrain available. Still, Ford has added a raft of appearance upgrades, including a sport suspension, twenty-two-inch forged aluminum wheels, and a model-specific grille. Inside, premium leather seats were designed to mock the actual leather jackets worn by the motorcycle enthusiasts, and Harley-Davidson logos are found on the seats and console, as well as a serialized plate.

This marks the 14th Harley-Davidson edition of an F-Series truck and latest in a line of

The successful collaboration between these two icons of the open road has produced eight
F-150 models, as well as six Super Duty F-250, F-350, and in 2009, the first Harley-Davidson
F-450 edition truck. The 2010 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 is the first Harley-Davidson edition vehicle built off the award-winning new 2009 Ford F-150.

“This truck builds on the legacy of toughness that’s been the hallmark of the Ford F-Series brand,” said Matt O’Leary, chief engineer. “Now we’re giving customers more of everything they love with the best F-150 and the boldest Harley-Davidson F-150 ever – featuring a fully differentiated design, all-wheel-drive capability, 22-inch wheels and a knock-out interior.”

The exterior of the 2010 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 offers a bold front fascia and six-bar shaped billet style grille and boasts specialized forged aluminum and Harley-Davidson® chrome badging. The truck will have a lowered appearance because of a fully integrated deployable running board.

Also standard are 22-inch low-profile performance tires – the largest in the F-Series lineup –
and Euroflange forged wheels with a polished and painted center wheel cap. The paint selection is classic Harley-Davidson – Tuxedo Black and the first Ford application of Lava, a deep maroon with three-color metal flake.

The interior is customized to appeal to the truck buyer who appreciates the attention to detail for which both Ford and Harley-Davidson are renowned.

“There’s a real tie-in between the truck’s interior and exterior designs,” said Patrick Schiavone, Design director. “It’s very much like how some customized Harley-Davidson motorcycles have a prominent theme that runs through them. That’s how we tie it in with custom bikes.”

Also impressive are the seats and console lid, which features hand-made cloisonné badges;
the console has a limited-edition serialization plate.

“These handmade badges continue our theme of premium Harley-Davidson offerings,” said Schiavone. “Probably the only place that most people have seen hand-made cloisonné is on premium Harley-Davidson motorcycles. It’s really high craftsmanship, and people will recognize it as another connection between the two brands.”

Linkage is apparent even in the smallest details, such as adornments on the seats.

“The theme of the seat was designed to resemble a Harley® biker jacket,” Schiavone said. “We even used authentic materials you’d find on Harley-Davidson MotorClothes® brand apparel.”

The seat backs feature ribbed leather treatments, engraved Harley-Davidson button snaps and even zippered map pockets featuring zippers from Harley jackets.

It is important to the Ford Design team that the truck remain genuine to enthusiasts of Harley-Davidson, customers who traditionally are as loyal to their motorcycles as F-150 owners are to their trucks.

That’s why the team meets regularly with Harley-Davidson designers and travels to motorcycle events throughout the year – including Daytona Bike Week, Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and Harley-Davidson dealer meetings – to talk to current and potential customers. About the F-150
On the new F-150, there’s a wealth of content complementing its unique appearance. The
2010 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 is equipped with a 5.4-liter three-valve engine, which is rated up to 320 horsepower and 390 ft.-lbs. of torque and mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with a sport-tuned exhaust and a top speed of 115 mph.

The truck is available with 4x2 or an optional all-wheel drive, which features settings of
4x2, AWD and 4x4 high, unique to the Harley-Davidson edition on the F-150 platform.

Chicago 2009: Scion tC Release Series 5.0 Debuts

It wouldn't truly be an auto show unless Scion debuted some sort of Release Series for one of the three economy cars in its portfolio. This time around, the tC coupe gets a limited-edition makeover, though this one proves to be a bit more serious than just a simple appearance package.

The tC Release Series 5.0 will have a TRD (Toyota Racing Development) theme, with special eighteen-inch wheels in matte black, lowering springs, rear sway bar, sport muffler, and an optional rear lip spoiler. Moving inside, the tC 5.0 will have a black leather steering wheel with red stitching, black cloth seats with red accents, and special floormats.

Only 2000 of the Release Series 5.0 tCs will be made, retailing at $17,000 with a five-speed manual transmission and $17,800 with a no-hassle automatic. Click through for Toyota's press release.

SCION ANNOUNCES PRICING FOR tC RELEASE SERIES 5.0 – TO BE DISPLAYED AT THE 2009 CHICAGO AUTO SHOW

TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 9, 2009 — Scion, of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., announced today that the only limited-production tC for 2009, the tC Release Series 5.0 (tC RS 5.0), will have a Toyota Racing Development (TRD) theme and be available at dealer showrooms in March. The 2009 tC RS 5.0 will be on display in the Scion space at the Chicago Auto Show, February 11-22, for media and public days.

The 2009 tC RS 5.0 features gloss black exterior paint and numerous performance products from TRD. TRD edition 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, in matte black with red trim, and red TRD lowering springs provide this tC with its menacing presence. For additional stability when cornering, the tC is fitted with a red TRD rear sway bar. A TRD sport muffler gives the tC RS 5.0 an aggressive sound signature, while a TRD exterior badge marks the car. A black rear lip spoiler will also be available.

The TRD theme is continued inside with a black leather steering wheel featuring red stitching, black seats with red accents and floor mats with the TRD logo. The tC RS 5.0 is also equipped with a cargo mat. Individually numbered badging completes the uniqueness of this vehicle.

Only 2,000 units of the tC Release Series 5.0 will be built. The tC RS 5.0 model will carry a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $2,300 over the base price of the tC. The base MSRP for the standard tC with a manual transmission is $17,000, while the standard tC with an automatic transmission model carries a MSRP of $17,800. The available black spoiler has a MSRP of $285, not including installation.

The delivery, processing and handling (DPH) fee for all Scion models is $670 and is not included in the MSRP. DPH fee for vehicles distributed by Southeast Toyota (SET) and Gulf States Toyota (GST) may vary.

Battery-Powered Transit Connect Coming In 2010

At the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year, Ford announced its plans to slowly roll out a range of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), one of which would include some sort of commercial vehicle. Today, the Blue Oval folks have issued an official press release announcing that the Transit Connect will be available as a BEV in the second half of 2010. Ford will be working with Smith Electric Vehicles on all of the upcoming BEVs, a company that has been around since 1920.

The Transit Connect BEV will have an electric range of up to 100 miles. Since most Connects will be owned and operated by small businesses, many federal and regional programs will be offering incentives for companies who choose to electrify all their fleet of commercial vehicles.

This will be the first example of Ford's battery vehicle program. A small car (think: Focus) will be rolled out in 2011, next-generation hybrids will appear in 2012, and plug-in hybrids will also be available in 2012. Click through the post to read Ford's official press release.

U.S.-Spec Ford Transit Connect Drops Before Chicago Debut

After years of success in Global markets, Ford has finally decided to bring its Transit Connect commercial van to the North American market. In the past, the Transit has been given awards such as Europe's International Van of the Year, and it will now come into the U.S. in a segment solely occupied by the Dodge Sprinter. The Transit Connect will be substantially smaller than the Sprinter, but will still be a good tool for small business and personal hauling solutions, offering 135 cubic feet of cargo space and an impressive 1600-pound payload capacity. (As Ford pointed out to us, that's a bigger payload than the current Dodge Ram pickup.)

Initially, only one powertrain offering will be available -- a 2.0-liter inline-four borrowed from the U.S.-spec Focus, mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. In the Transit Connect, this engine will be able to obtain fuel economy figures of up to 24 miles per gallon on the highway, though EPA certification has not yet been completed as of this writing.

What matters most to consumers, though, is overall interior usability. The split rear cargo doors open to a standard 180 degrees, though optional 255-degree doors will be available. This means the Transit Connect will have 52.1 inches of overall load height, and inside, 59.1 inches of floor-to-ceiling height is available. There are 47.8 inches of space between the rear wheel wells, and the overall load length of the cargo space is a generous 72.6 inches.

“Transit Connect was developed to bring small business owners a new vehicle choice, offering significantly improved fuel economy, generous and accessible cargo space with the agility and maneuverability to deliver the goods in tight quarters,” said Rob Stevens, chief engineer.

Transit Connect’s capability begins with capacity. With 135 cubic feet of Transit Connect cargo volume, no other vehicle in the American market can deliver this combination of capacity and fuel economy.
• Split rear cargo doors open at a standard 180 degrees, or an optionally available 255 degrees. When open, these doors provide access to 52.1 inches of available load height.
• Lift-over height is less than two feet, when the Transit Connect is unloaded
• Once inside, the cargo area opens up to 59.1 inches of floor to ceiling load height
• The load width is 47.8 inches, between the wheel arches
• Load length is a generous 72.6 inches or more than six feet of cargo floor space. Dual sliding rear side doors provide wide access to the generous cargo space as well

Transit Connect has more than double the cargo-carrying space of the Chevrolet HHR Panel, making it suitable for a broader range of commercial use applications.

The Transit Connect offers commercial users a cargo payload of 1,600 pounds. This capacity means that the Transit Connect can carry a larger payload than the full size Dodge Ram 1500 standard-cab short-box pickup truck.

“Transit Connect can swallow far more cargo than people might think,” added Stevens.

The Transit Connect's capability story goes beyond capacity. Its size and nimble driving dynamics provide agility for urban routes. Power-assisted rack and pinion steering allows a 39-foot curb-to-curb turning circle assures that Transit Connect is maneuverable when delivering the goods for entrepreneurs in tight quarters.

The Transit Connect is expected to deliver at least 20 city and 24 highway mpg, pending EPA fuel economy certification.

Crew Chief™ is a tool for fleet managers to track vehicles, staff and Transit Connect diagnostics.

This system, not available in conjunction with the in-dash computer, provides a fleet manager with constant access to vehicle location information, the ability to track vehicle performance, automatic notification of vehicle maintenance needs and the ability to let drivers drive ─ not fill out written vehicle logs.

Crew Chief allows online access to vehicle location, speed, idle time, fuel usage and more than 30 diagnostic measures. Functions and reporting can be tailored to meet the specific needs of fleets large or small. Crew Chief has “geo-fencing” capability, allowing a fleet manager to set geographic or time of use boundaries.

Transit Connect is adaptable to multiple drivers, too. It features a six-way manually adjustable reclining driver’s seat with an armrest, and a four-way adjustable reclining passenger’s seat. The steering wheel tilts and telescopes to fit drivers of diverse sizes.

Ford Transit Connect has a global track record of durability. It’s a purpose-built commercial vehicle, built on a dedicated commercial vehicle platform in an exclusively commercial vehicle production facility. Transit Connect is designed, engineered and manufactured by Ford of Europe to beat tough, light commercial vehicle durability standards.

The Transit Connect is powered by a well-proven Duratec 2.0-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine, featuring four valves per cylinder and an aluminum block and head. Sequential multiport electronic fuel injection provides precise fuel metering for smooth and economical performance. This engine, delivering an estimated 136 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 128 ft.-lbs. of torque at 4,750 rpm, has proven American market durability.

This engine is mated to a four-speed automatic transaxle with overdrive for additional fuel economy. A final-drive ratio of 4.20 to 1 is designed to give Transit Connect pulling power for the long haul. Fifteen inch steel wheels with P205/65R-15 black sidewall tires put the Transit Connect in contact with the road.

Updated Mazda MX-5 To Debut At Chicago Auto Show

Mazda recently refreshed its MX-5 roadster for the Japanese market and we've now learned that the updated Miata redux is scheduled to make its American debut in a few weeks at the Chicago Auto Show.

Aside from a slightly updated design, not too much has changed about the Mazda two-seater. Mazda managed to boost two more horsepower out of the MX-5's 2.0-liter engine, but we're told that the car is lighter than previous models and that fuel economy will also be improved. A tweaked suspension should make for a much more sporty ride, though we don't have much to complain about with the current car's setup.

IRVINE, Calif. - Mazda's timeless roadster, the MX-5 Miata, races into the 2009 Chicago Auto Show with a refreshed exterior, enhanced performance and improved fuel efficiency. Mazda will showcase the 2009 MX-5 along with a historical collection of early model-year Miatas and the all-new 2010 MAZDA3 four-door sedan and five-door models.

Launched in 1989 as a 1990 model, the MX-5 Miata was conceived as a small two-seat roadster that was spirited, fun-to-drive and unlike anything else available at the time. Since then, competitors have come and gone, but none have lasted. Twenty years later, and with more than 800,000 models sold so far around the world, the MX-5 Miata is the world's best-selling two-seat roadster.
