We caught the successor to the 147, the Alfa Romeo Milano, during winter testing, and once near the Nürburgring, now we have it actually doing some testing on the ‘Ring.

During the winter, we posted some pictures of the Alfa Romeo Milano prototype out testing in full winter camouflage. Today, we give you this set of photos of the Milano, successor to the 147, caught near the Nürburgring with less garb, giving us a better look at the car’s lines and front-end details.

Probably debuting at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September, the Milano will be available with front-wheel and four-wheel drive systems, and will offer the T-jet gasoline and Multijet diesel engines.

An alliance between Chrysler and Fiat could mean that the U.S. would receive the Fiat 500, Grande Punto, and Panda, as well as the Alfa Romeo MiTo and Milano, Edmunds reports. Chrysler's bankruptcy documents also indicate American access to Fiat’s 3.0-liter diesel and 1.4-liter engines.

With these vehicles, Chrysler hopes to offer a lineup of vehicles in a segment currently underserved by the automaker. The alliance could also mean more production in underutilized plants in the U.S.

We already reported that the Alfa Romeo 159 would be at Geneva, and that it wouldn’t be much different from previous models. True to our word, the 159 and the 159 Sportwagon made their debut at the auto show yesterday.

This year’s models feature two new engines. The first is a 1.75-liter TBi engine, which produces 200 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, which propel the 159 from 0-62 miles per hour in 7.7 seconds. This gives the Alfa a top speed of 146 with this engine.

The second engine, which is displayed in the Sportwagon in Geneva, is a 2.0-liter JTDM engine, capable of 170 horsepower, giving the vehicle a 0-62 time of 9 seconds, and a top speed of 134 miles per hour.

Our spy photographer sent us these shots of the new 2010 Alfa Romeo Milano Mule hanging out in the snow. Built on the same platform as the Alfa Romeo Bravo, the 5-door successor of the 147 will come standard with Q2 front-wheel drive, but will also have an optional Q4 four-wheel drive system. It will also have feature the same line of T-jet and Multijet engines included in other Alfas. We can expect a saucier GTA version some time after its release.

Due to a careful camouflage job, it is difficult to see the form of the Milano, so we’ll have to wait to get a peek at the front-end styling that characterizes many Alfa Romeos.

Questionable Good news, hatch fans: Chrysler includes the Milano in its viability plan.

We knew that Alfa Romeo was in the process of hotting up the cute little MiTo hatch, and now the official details and images have been released prior to the car's official debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The MiTo GTA has a noticeably revised (and falcon-like) front fascia, with reworked air intakes that nicely integrate the foglamps. Additionally, Alfa says that a lot of work has gone into lowering the car's center of gravity, including the addition of carbon fiber in the rear spoiler, roof, and mirror fairings.

Powering the GTA is a turbocharged and direct-injected version of Alfa's 1.7-liter four-banger, producing a healthy 240 horsepower. The suspension geometry has been heavily revised, the braking system heavily relies on aluminum, and the whole car has been lowered by 20 millimeters.

Alfa Romeos have always been pleasing to the eye, and this one is certainly no different. The folks over at Alfa Romeo have released previews of the 2009 a little bit before the car’s debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

Truthfully, the looks haven't changed much from the previous year's model, but the lineup will feature a 1.8TBi variant—harnessing a 200 horsepower turbocharged 1.8-liter four and an electronic differential for the front-drive car. This will hopefully quench the thirst of the individual who seeks a taste of sport, without the seriousness of the full blown GTA package. A 170 horsepower diesel is also an option in the JTDm model as well.

While the future of the Fiat-Chrysler union remains uncertain, there is high hope that the Alfa lineup will end up back in North America (Especially the Brera and this 159). And why not? It's got the looks, and an Italian spirit.

In true Italian manner, the U.S. version of the Alfa Romeo 8C has already run in to some problems. It turns out that an incorrect torque setting on the front and rear suspension upper and lower ball joint nuts is forcing Maserati to recall U.S. domestic market 8Cs as well as the Gran Turismos and Quattroportes from 2008. A total of 7912 vehicles.

Buyers are advised to not brush this aside as “character,” because if the ball joint nuts were to ever come loose, problems ranging from steering vibration to complete separation of the steering arm may result. Either way, the "loss of steering capability" is certainly not to be taken lightly.

Recalls should begin next month, though customers may contact Maserati for more information.

It has been almost fourteen years since Alfa Romeo sold new cars in the United States, and their commitment to bring cars back to the U.S. is looking good. The folks at Alfa are planning for an entry into the States as early as late 2009.

The 8C Competizione will be the first car offered in the U.S., and all 84 cars bound for the States have already been sold out. Alfa will only produce 500 of the 450-horsepower 8C coupes worldwide, and U.S. sales of the upcoming 8C Spider are said to begin in 2010. After that, the folks at Automotive News say that Alfa will plan to bring a large, rear-wheel-drive car over, potentially riding on a Jaguar platform. If Alfa can reach a deal with Jaguar's new owner, Tata Motors, we could see this product as early as 2011 or 2012.
