When talking about the upcoming Detroit Auto Show, a lot of auto critics (ourselves included) wondered if big shots like General Motors and Chrysler would even be showing products, what with their financial situation. However, the bailout money was granted, and GM plans to unveil a couple of new products in January, one of which being this 2010 Chevrolt Equinox. The big story with the new Equinox is its two direct-injected engines which will not only deliver similar performance to the outgoing models, but fuel economy will be greatly improved, as well.
Customers will be able to choose from either a 182-horsepower, 2.4-liter DI four-cylinder powerplant or a 255-horsepower, 3.0-liter DI V-6. The smaller engine will supposedly achieve fuel economy numbers of 21 miles per gallon in the city and 30 on the highway, while the V-6 will get 18 and 25, respectively. Chevrolet expects that nearly two-thirds of all 2010 Equinox buyers will choose the 2.4-liter setup.
Outside, the Equinox closely follows Chevrolet's new design language set by the Malibu, and the result is a package that is much more attractive compared to the outgoing model. Inside, the revised interior design mimics what we should expect to see on the upcoming Chevy Cruze and Volt, though the Equinox features some extremely useful features like a center armrest storage space which is big enough to fit an average laptop.
We'll be sure to get some live shots direct from the Cobo Hall floor next month, but flip through our gallery of stock shots to get a detailed look at the new Equinox. GM's press release can be found by clicking through the post, as well.
