General Motors sure does enjoy badge engineering. We just saw the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox for the first time this past January along with Cadillac's new SRX, but instead of making a replacement for the outgoing Pontiac Torrent, the General decided to add another vehicle into GMC's product line -- the 2010 Terrain. And while we know that photography sometimes doesn't do a vehicle justice, we're really hoping that this thing looks better in person than in the press shots. The sloped front end has a sort of "Big, Bad, American GLK" feel to it, while the rear looks like a modern-day evolution of the old Buick Rendezvous. Oh, and let's not forget those squared-off wheel arches -- that's something you won't find on the Chevy or Caddy.
The good news here is that there are two rather robust powertrains being offered in the Terrain -- a new 2.4-liter four which produces 182 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque, or a direct-injection 3.0-liter V-6 delivering a bountiful 264 horsepower and 222 pound-feet. More remarkably, the four-pot engine can achieve as high as 30 miles per gallon on the highway, and the V-6's highway economy rings in at 25 mpg. In addition, the heavily updated interior will prove to be worlds better than the outgoing Equinox or Torrent, with available features like a dual-screen rear entertainment system, power liftgate, and Bluetooth.
