Mercedes-Benz parent company, Daimler AG, has announced that, along with Aabar Investments, it is taking over a 75.1 percent joint stake in Brawn GP, the winner of this year’s Formula 1 championship. Furthermore, the team’s name will be changed to Mercedes GP, beginning next season.

Ross Brawn, Nick Fry, and other partners will still control the remaining stake, and Brawn will continue as Team Principal.

Also of note, McLaren will buy Back Mercedes’ 40 percent stake in its team by some time in 2011, leaving McLaren independent. Mercedes-Benz will still supply engines to McLaren until 2015.

In a nutshell, the SLS is a clear successor to the SLR McLaren and it is clearly improved from the SLR.

Our spy photographer sent us these newer shots of the updated Mercedes-Benz CLS AMG, which will be based on the current E-Class. We should see it with direct-injected V-6 and V-8 engines, including a 435-horsepower twin-turbo V-8. Then there will be the line-topping CLS63 AMG with 544 horsepower.

Our photographer speculates the possibility of a CLS 400 BlueHybrid, an interesting thought, indeed.

The 2011 Mercedes-Benz R-Class, as seen in these spy photos, has received quite a makeover. It has a new face, including grille, hood, bumper, headlights, LED running lights, and side mirrors. In back, it gets a new bumper, LED lights, and exhaust.

It still looks like a rolling loaf of bread, but now in a good way.

According to the shooter, it should get an engine update too, to comply with regulations. Look for the new R-Class at the Detroit show in January.

The new Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG, with its 525-horsepower V-8 propelling it along looks good (from what we can see) as it lurks near the Nürburgring. From these photos, we can see that it will have two sets of two tailpipes. Most of the other features are covered by that thick camouflage Mercedes-Benz uses on their test cars.

With the new E-Class, Mercedes-Benz is doing its best to get beyond the “middle child” reputation that most cars in this class seem to have. Neither fish nor fowl, mid-sized Euro sedans (e.g. 5-Series, A6 and S-Type) have lacked the sportiness of their smaller brethren, while also giving up the luxury and presence of the parent company’s flagship sedan. In the case of Mercedes-Benz, we thought the last generation E-Class was rather bland and characterless.

So, when we found ourselves liking the new E350 Sport quite a bit, we were pleasantly surprised. It is still a middle of the road kind of car, but this time M-B dialed in some attractions for the driver that greatly helped us make sense of the car. If you want a good daily driver, not a four-door sports car, this one is worth a look.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class was completely overhauled for 2010, and we now have our first test fleet sample in the form of an E350 Sport. Its design is indeed a drastic departure from the last-generation E-Class, but how does it handle the tasks of everyday life?
