Here's a funny little bit of weekend news.

For years, we always hear about the Honda Accord or Toyota Camry being the best-selling car each year in America. But if we expand the definition of car a bit, both the Camry and Accord have been trumped -- by the Little Tikes Cozy Coupe, the perennial favorite mode of transportation for the toddler crowd.

The Cozy Coupe has sold more than 10 million units in its thirty-year history, outselling every other car in 2008, and even outselling the popular Ford Taurus back in the 1990s. Because of this, the Cozy Coupe is being inducted into the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum in Cleveland, where it will be showcased as one of the top twenty best selling models of all time.

Yes, we admit to having a copy of Gran Turismo 4 at the office, and, yes, we have our Nürburgring times posted on the whiteboard. Of course, we are eagerly awaiting the release of Gran Turismo 5, among other games.

Yesterday, at the E3 Expo, Sony released the above trailer for the upcoming Gran Turismo 5. Enjoy.

This year’s E3 Expo yielded an announcement of a partnership between Audi and Xbox 360 for the upcoming racing game, Forza Motorsport 3. 

The game features vehicles from a range of manufacturers, though the 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro V10 is highlighted in the game, and appears on the box cover. Audi worked closely with the game’s creators to accurately represent the driving experience of the R8.

The 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro V10 will arrive in showrooms later this year, and Forza Motorsport 3 is scheduled for October.

Indian automaker Tata, manufacturer of the diminutive Nano, has introduced a line of commercial trucks. The expansion of Tata offerings include tractor-trailers, mixers, dump trucks, and the like, and will be sold in key global markets.

Tata boasts that its trucks provide a good value to transporters due to their high power-to-weight ratio, durability, and carrying capacity. The powertrains vary along the line from 148 to 552 horsepower, with carrying capacities ranging from 10 to 75 metric tons.

According to Auto Express, Britain is trying out an Intelligent Speed Adaptation system which uses satellites to govern vehicle speed when entering a lower speed limit zone.

The satellites send a signal to the vehicle, which either warns the driver, or automatically slows the vehicle to the speed limit. The technology could increase road safety and help drivers avoid traffic tickets.

The technology is on trial in some buses and taxis in London for six months.

Volvo released its free PC racing game, “Volvo – The Game,” for download today. The game features two tracks: the Swedish Gothenburg Eco Drive Arena, and Chayka of Kiev, Ukraine.

Players can choose from among several Volvos to race with, including the S60 concept, which debuted at the Detroit auto show earlier this year, and the classic 240.

We took the game for a few test runs today, and we weren’t totally disappointed. The graphics are actually decent for a free game. The sounds feel pretty authentic, but the game’s theme song gets old quick. To race, we only used the keyboard controls, which, thankfully, are customizable.

We could see this game being fun once we get used to the controls, or if we had a wheel to hook up to the PC, but with only two tracks, it won’t be long before it grows tiresome. Again, though, it’s a free game.

Mac users are out of luck; "Volvo - The Game" is currently only available for the PC.

What people seem to have forgotten is that competition is what capitalism is all about. Evrey failure shifted purchases to the survivors, rewarding them for producing what the market wanted. That's how you get better products.
