Chevrolet Volt to Get Energy-Efficient Bose Sound System
The era of the electric car is upon us, and efficiency is the key to its success. For General Motors, the 2011 Chevrolet Volt is the automaker’s first major step into the EV arena. In order to achieve the electric-only 40-mile range GM has promised, the electronics in the car will need to consume as little of the battery power as possible.
In keeping with the spirit of the Volt, Bose has created an energy-efficient sound system for the electric vehicle. It consumes 50 percent less energy than previous sound offerings from Bose, while still providing the quality of sound associated with the Bose brand. Not only that, but the system is 30 percent smaller to conserve space, and 40 percent lighter, which will also help to curb the cars overall energy consumption.
In a time when energy is more and more at a premium, especially in the floundering automotive industry, will other technologies follow suit in dramatically increasing energy efficiency?

Meaning that the sound sucks just as bad as other Bose products.

I don't know dude, a top of the line Delco-Bose Gold system came in my brand new at the time 1995 Corvette and it smokes. It was designed for the acoustics of the corvette complete with twin subs and you can put the whole shabang on ten, the bass included, and it holds together beautifully, not a hint of distortion and with great clarity. 200 watts in that little space.
So I have to assume your just another ignoramus who probably has never actually heard a Bose sound system in action. For the money, they are outstanding.

I had Bose 501 Speakers in my Home. They really sucked compared to the Klipsche Speakers that I replaced them with.
I have looked at other Bose Products and always thought they were way over priced. Or course saying all Bose products are bad is like saying Corvettes are bad because I owned a Chevette.
Actually my Chevette was a great car until the uni body rusted out and was no longer safe to drive.

You must have a hearing problem. Very few speakers excite with the level of realism as Bose products do. I've owned 901's, 301's, and even the 1401's used in cars before major automakers enlisted their use, like Nissan, Audi, Cadillac, Corvette. Where are you coming from????????

I would consider the EV1 the first major step into the EV arena.
I don't think phase shift is Bose's problem. I think their signal processing makes pretty good use of the low-quality materials that they use. I think what hurts their products are the materials used.

All I know is that their sound has never been coherent, to my ear. Typically, they have the bass running through some reflex chamber before it heads towards you. It arrives later. That's what I mean by phase shift. Perhaps time delay might be a better way to phrase it. Even their original design, the 901 suffered from that. One driver aimed directly, and eight bouncing off the walls (using the room for the reflex) before hitting you. For me, that doesn't work.

Nice to see Bose getting the credit they deserve, for once. I am amazed at how often I hear Bose held up as a paragon of quality by otherwise well informed people. This, apparently, includes the executives at GM.
Bose really are masters at self promotion.
They also pay their engineers quite well, I understand.

I don't imagine there are nearly as many engineers as marketing types. If Bose had to exist strictly on the sound quality of its products - which have always been marketed to audio illiterates, not the knowledgeable - they would still be two or three guys in a garage. Even their very expensive and over-rated headphones are no better than mediocre in either sound or build quality.

I hope that there will be an option to pass on the Bose system.. I have over 10 years experience in the A/V industry, and Bose are the laughing stock of speaker builders. The sound quality is consistently poor at every price point. What Bose does excel at is marketing, and bribing sales associates to sell products that they would never themselves own.
