Classic Corvette and Tatra at the Fairfield County Concours

Westport, Connecticut –

A 1963 Corvette and a 1938 Tatra were the principal winners in Sunday’s Fairfield County Concours d’Elegance, staged for the second time on the spacious grounds of the Fairfield County Hunt Club.

The Corvette, owned by Michael Schudroff of nearby Greenwich, and the Czech Tatra, T77a brought from Toronto by John Long, were awarded what the Concours called a “Grand Prix d’Honneur,” one of which was given to the best domestic entry and one to the best foreign-built vehicle. In the case of the Tatra, it was fortunate the award did not include the word “elegance.”

The event drew a 200-car field and a healthy crowd.

That does not look like what I'm used to thinking of as a 1963 Corvette. The 1963-7 Vette was what most people called a "Sting Ray".

There's probably a neat story with this car. A shame it wasn't in the article.

More photos and background probably would've helped.  I've seen that proto/one-off somewhere before; just can't remember where.

chartguy is right about the C2 Sting Rays.  Chevy shortened the title to one word with the C3s, skipping '68 and lasting until the late '70s.  In spite of that, most Vette experts recall the C3s as Mako Sharks, after the concept that spawned the design.

Did a little digging (not enough, if anyone else wants to contribute).

It is a Pininfarina-bodied car, which took second in its class at Pebble Beach this year. One source described it as a "Pininfarina-bodied 1963 Corvette Rondine". I'm not exactly sure what that is. "La rondine"is a Puccini opera, and the title translates as "The Swalllow", so I'm guessing that was what they called it.

Hey chart, could your investigative skills find out about a custom C3 from the mid-'70s called the "Scorpion"?  My uncle is dying to recover some lost magazine issues showcasing some hot-rodded Vettes from that time.  One was the Scorpion, and another was called something like "the Big Banana."  Like a recipe for a porno...

There was a show car built by Pennington in Detroit,it was shown the first time if I remember right, in 1970..it was a rear engine, 1963 Corvette, Candy Apple Red.It was called The Scorpion.
