Details Emerge About Nissan’s Upcoming 370Z
Perhaps coming to the U.S. for an L.A. Auto Show reveal, this early image, scanned from a Japanese magazine, claims to tell us what the new Nissan 370Z will look like.
The upcoming Z looks to be a slightly fussier version of the car we have now, with detailed character lines along the side of the body, and a more complex front fascia. The lines seem to have been softened a bit from the current car as well, giving a curvier overall appearance.
But the most dominating feature on this potential preview of the 370 is the set of triangular LED headlights that look to be an entirely new design. The lamps look a little undersized for the car’s face, and their shape reminds us an awful lot of the Starfleet insignia, perhaps as a nod to the futuristic nature of the new Z. Tell us what you think of this early rendering in comments.

Heh. I kind of liked the headlights until you pointed out the Starfleet look. I was thinking they looked like fishhooks, but now it's ruined for me. :)

Fussy is right... I'd have hoped for a little more GTR and a little less Micra, but I suppose the 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse has already beat the 370Z to the mini GTR clone party.

It looks better than the 350Z.

It's a fussier, less classic design but as a current owner, I'm ready for crisper handling and more performance.

The current car is no looker, and this one slips a little further down the slope. I wonder if they'll add another couple hundred pounds for good measure.

I think this is Nissan's best looking car, honestly.

Wow, like I can really get hooked by the massive styling change from the old headlights to the new triangular ones. While style's important, and I do notice it, I find it hard to care about these sorts of cosmetic changes.

I'm more interested in the powertrain and the weight.

I like the fenders and the green house, the front grill doesnt need the extra thingys, headlights could be a done a little better, just MO.

i can't judge it right now but so far this is not driving me crazy.

Lord, why? it looks like it melted a bit, like it got droopier and a few more wrinkles. not doing it for me, if I saw one on the street I would have though "what a well fitted bad bodykit"

I have heard rumors between a 3.6 to a 3.8 liter V8 for this car, so many rumors, though many are convinces of the 3.7 liter engine

I like everything except for the headlights and the rims. One of the beautiful things about the current 350z is the angular simplicity and distinctiveness of the design which was very easy on the eyes. This one is a bit less vanilla and a bit less universally-beautiful. I think that it's one of those cars that you need to look at longer and come around to appreciating.

Does Star Trek know Nissan stole one of their designs for the headlights

I hope this isn't reflective of the actual design, because it does not at all live up to the quality of Nissan's recent efforts. The grille looks like the front of a tractor, the side vents have a tacked-on quality, and the wheel bulges puff out like over-inflated balloons.
I could understand if Nissan thought the current-generation design was too understated, but this looks like it was designed by a teenager. Is that really the target market?

Truly Japanese in design, yes. But it looks overweight and the air scoop behind the front wheels looks like an afterthought. The sides of the front fascia look too upright and flat and will appear in a wind tunnel and in hard acceleration as an "aerodynamic brick wall". I hope they don't screw up the Infiniti twin re-design...

It will go fast, but it stil a ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZcar.........

The shape of a Scion tc, with the exception of that ghetto hood. Ugh, let's hope Nissan can do better than this (and the current). Be interesting to see if they can make it a better handler than the 350z. The handling is what needs the most improvement. More RX-8 personality and less Altima, please.

Not to shabby, i think they should make the head lamps a little bigger though

Hey i've seen that headlights design before, it was designed by SupermotoXL guy. No doubt its the one. You can check his cars at his site: http://www.geocities.com/SupermotoXL
It doesnt look matched with body lines. I rather like the original looks of 350Z. This is awkward.

First of all, I don't care for the new headlight treatment very much. Secondly, the grill opening gives the appearance of an "underbite". And finally, I think the air extractor behind the front wheelwell should be extended closer to the crease line. It almost looks like an afterthought the way it's currently done. I'm sure they'll sell a lot of them based on their historic performance, handling, and comfort. But there's still a lot to be said for style, and these little doodads just aren't it.
