Japan Report: NSX Cleans Up in Super GT
Acura might be struggling with the new NSX, but across Japan, the original is still turning it on, in style. On the track, the NSX has just seen off all comers in Super GT, Japan’s hugely popular, approximate answer to NASCAR.
Super GT is serious stuff, with front-line 500 horsepower entries from Nissan, Toyota, and Honda, big crowds and great racing.
While several teams run very highly developed versions of the NSX in Super GT, the ARTA NSX, entered by Aguri Suzuki, and driven by ex F1 pilot Ralph Firman and Japan’s Daisuke Ito, ended up taking the Team prize and Drivers’ title in a clean sweep.
NSX drivers, in fact, filled up the first four places in the 2007 drivers’ title race and the NSX also won the last three races on the trot. Clearly, it was the machine to beat.
Not that Honda can necessarily expect a re-run next year. Nissan, which has been running the 350Z in Super GT (and won the Team title in 2001, 2003, 2004, and 2005) will be back in 2008 with the new GT-R which will certainly shake things up.
