Detroit 2009: Audi Set to Bring A3 TDI to the U.S.
Audi announced today the launch of another clean diesel car bound for the U.S. market, the 2010 A3 2.0 TDI. The small, sporty member of the Audi family will be capable of over forty miles per gallon, and is already rated a "Top Safety Pick" by the IIHS. Audi's newest green machine will not be forsaking its sporty genes, and will provide 140 turbocharged horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, as well as the optional Audi Magnetic Ride used in the TT.
The A3 2.0 TDI puts this luxury car in competition with a new, and growing, green market, including the Mini Cooper, BMW 1-Series, Toyota Prius, and all-new Honda Insight.
This announcement from Audi follows an earlier U.S. TDI clean diesel announcement of the Audi Q7 TDI, which we should see in dealerships around April.

Same engine and platform. In Europe the A3 has 105hp diesels with 5-speed manuals or 6-speed DSGs and front wheel drive and 140- and 170hp diesels with 6-speed manuals or DSGs and optional quattro.
Most A3s on the road in Europe are TDIs, so this is the "proper" European car.

This is has a good features with all the facilities and automatic transmissions. The best use of the clean diesel is been used here for more better outputs .

I really really hope they re-think the "exclusive" with S-tronic. Audi is usually so good about offering their cars with manual gearbox.

What is it with Audi? No quattro and only the S-tronic? The best transmission is still the manual and the Quattro clearly out sells the front wheel drive models by a wide margin. Get your act together AUDI! While you are at it how about getting about 200hp out of the TDI and keeping 40+ mpg?

hi all,
to the gentleman that stated audi is so good at giving us 6 speeds, i wonder what country he live is? in the usa, we get crap. i have had two articles published in the quattro quarterly about this major void. i want a six speed with quattro. in the usa, the only audis you can get as such are the a-5, with the absolutely terrible "pop up only," sun roof, and the tt with the 6 cylinder engine. last july 22nd, i turned in my ;04, a4, hoping to get a new a4. try getting one in the usa with a 6 speed. after having a string of bmws, all of which i enjoyed, i truly loved my a4. audi is forcing me to go back to bmw. the only hope i have left is the new a5 cabrio. it is supposed to come through with the same "stuff," as the coupe. i am totally sure audi will screw me over once again. as such, that new z4 is looking really good in pictures. i may have to give up the quattro, but i would rather have rear wheel drive over front wheel drive. the z4, which i know will have the 6 speed, may have me saying good bye to the four rings.

Audi would sell many many units of the A3 TDi in the USA if they would bring a manual transmission coupled with quattro. I don't understand why the US market is always shortchanged on engine/transmission/drivetrain. I am sick of it.
