Don't Worry America, Chrysler has a Plan: Diagrams for the Future
Assuming that Chrysler will be able to dodge the financial crisis bullet that’s aimed squarely at its head these days, the automaker is planning to flood the market with a total of 24 new models during the next 48 months. This, per the plan that the automaker submitted to the U.S. Congress on Tuesday.
As nicely illustrated by this set of charts, the models intended for 2010 will be the next-gen Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango. Later on, the company has planned to release the fully electric Lotus based Dodge EV Roadster, as well as EVs and Hybrids. Fiat Group-based compact cars should be in the mix over the next few years as well. Get you a better look at the charts with our gallery above.

I was watching Autoline Daily and shared John McElroy's distaste for the future Chrysler 300. The new model looks identical to the current one! How bad is it for Chrysler stylists to add some creativity? The Grand Cherokee, on the hand, looks handsome.
The present Chrysler business model looks to be obsolete. Like GM's butting brands, the sale of sibling products would only drain resources. There is no need for both a Dodge Durango and a Grand Cherokee, I understand the Charger and the 300 (the latter being upscale), but I feel the old rumored plan would be simpler and practical: Dodge building trucks, Jeep working with SUVs, and Chrysler settled with cars.

I agree, but would add that I think Fiat may also be an unknown quantity. I have read that Chrysler is going to be distributing Fiat, but that Fiat is bringing no money to the table. They are just supplying cars for a market that Chrysler needs but doesn't have product. I can see where the dealers having Fiats to sell might help them, but what does Fiat do for Chrysler on a corporate level? Does Chrysler get a cut on any Fiats it sells? The other unknown factor in this deal is that when Fiat pulled out of the American market the name was considered an acronym for "Fix It Again Tony." Fiat is probably building much better cars than they did back in the day, but can they convince the American car buyer that they are better?
The last question I have has to do with Alpha. Alpha has announced that they are coming back to the States. he 8c will be sold by selected Ferrari and Maserati dealers, but the "bread and butter" line of Alphas are not a fit for Ferrari and Maserati dealers and the dealer network of those two brands is not sufficient for the volume and market saturation that Alpha needs to make it in this country. Is Chrysler also going to distribute the rest of the Alpha line?

Bring on FIAT. It's not the company some of us knew in our youth. Mind you, I have fond memories of the Fiat Brava I delivered pizza's in years ago. My 124 Sport Spyder was also memorable. When it ran, it was poetry in motion, when it wasn't, I learned a lot.
I'm hooked on German cars now, but I'm open to Italian ones too, ones that don't cost $125,999. Bring the small ones. Bring the spirited runners.
