The Winding Road™ Method

The club uses a modular teaching method specifically designed for Driver’s Club members. Four basic concepts are behind this approach:

  • Fun: you spend most of your time doing driving activities, not in the classroom
  • Beginners are Welcome: focus on learning at your pace, and competing against yourself not others
  • Learning: work with understandable principles so that you can develop even without an instructor
  • Safety: make sure you and your car don’t get scratched
The Winding Road™ Method is a modular series of exercises and practices that can be done over multiple sessions and time periods.

The distinctive emphasis of the Club’s approach is on consistent principles. Drivers are given tools that they can apply, practice and develop. This contrasts with instruction, in which drivers are told what to do, but may not be able to progress or develop as easily.

Trackside Events

While no two events will be identical due to differences in facilities (and to make it interesting to attend multiple events), a typical day might look like:
  • .5 hr. Safety briefing
  • 1 hr. Lead/Follow touring
  • 1 hr. Coaching and practice: Technique 1
  • 1 hr. Coaching and practice: Technique 2
  • lunch
  • 1 hour Coaching and practice: Technique 3
  • 1 hour Coaching and practice: Technique 4
  • 1 hour on track coaching + lead/follow
  • 1 hour autocross relay
The focus here is always on the driver. Coaching progresses at the driver’s pace, with the aim of encouragement, challenge and enjoyment.
