Fiat 500 Abarth Opening Edition
While the standard Fiat 500 Abarth only makes 135 horsepower from its 1.4-liter turbocharged engine, a new version has managed to squeeze out 25 more in the new 500 Abarth Opening Edition.
The Opening Edition is fitted with a fiddled edition of the original 1.4-liter and now produces 160 hp when the revs hit 5750 rpm with its 169.6 pound-feet of maximum torque (according to European figures) helping out at 3000 rpm. When mated to a 5-speed transmission, the car will have a 0-60 time of just under 7.4 seconds, and a top speed of 131 miles per hour.
As for the other new and improved bits, the Opening Edition also comes with front and rear drilled disc brakes, high performance front brake pads, a special 'powered by BMC' air filter, and special low springs. Its 17-inch alloys painted white or titanium will complete with 205/40 R16 ZR 17 Pirelli Pzero Nero tires for any sort of vigorous driving.
To distinguish the car from its wimpier brother, the Opening Edition has two aluminum badges proudly flaunting its name, leather upholstery, a plate with the car’s serial number on the central tunnel, and a grey or white fuel cap and key cover. It also seems to have grown a fondness of the color red, as the calipers, the side mirrors, and an optional sticker along its door are all red— even the engraving on the gear knob is red.
Additionally, for those who choose to purchase the car in Campovolo Grey, they will be awarded with the option of adding a red chequered flag on the roof to pay homage to the many sporting victories of the Abarth brand. The only other color the Opening Edition will come in is pearlized white.
Only a limited number of these models will be made, with only 100 hitting the Italian market. All of them however will be delivered by Fiat with a cover bearing a period Abarth 595 design, to make it just that much more special.
