Ford Slashing 2009 F-150 Order Combinations By 99 Percent?

According to Automotive News, the new 2009 Ford F-150 will be orderable in almost 10 million different combinations. That may sound like a dizzying array of choices, but that figure represents a cut of more than 90 percent over the 2008 model. In fact, while Ford isn’t saying how much it is cutting the possible number of combinations, it may be as much as a 99 percent cut from the billions of permutations available for MY 2008.

The simplification effort is part of Ford’s company-wide restructuring plans, and will help the Blue Oval cut manufacturing and engineering costs, and it should help improve quality and dealers sell through existing stock (as opposed to custom ordering). Of course, it will also mean that buyers necessarily get exactly what they want on their F-150, but given that Ford hasn’t eliminated any bodystyles or wheelbase configurations, there should still be a higher degree of customizability than with comparable offerings from Toyota or Nissan.

The F-150's ordering sheet isn't the only one going under the knife. The Expedition will go from about 250,000 combinations to fewer than 10,000 for 2009, and the 2010 Focus will only have about 150 different configurations--about 95 percent fewer than 2008.

Not really in the market for another 1/2 ton. I MAY be buying a used 3/4 ton with a diesel in a couple of years with a RV. Then again, I might just keep my present truck and get a lighter RV.

Can't wait when will be be able to get one I have had Ford trucks for over 45 years and acan not wait to park a new 2009 F-150 in my drive Way.
This is with out a dough the best looking F-150 Ford has ever come up with and I have owned them all. First one wasa a 1966 and the one i have now is 2005. The new ideas and offerings make this a must have f-150 for me.
