2014 Corvette to Have a V-6?

Jonathan Ramsey of Autoblog fame is putting out verbal panic, courtesy of Motor Trend. We all know how accurate Motor Trend has been in its predictions for the future. According to the MT gang, GM has scrapped any planned mid-engine concept for the C7. In addition, the C7 won't arrive till the 2014 model year. (Leaving us with an increasingly dull and devalued C6.) For a final twist, the C7 may come with a V-6.
So how about it: a 2014 V-6 front-engine 'Vette?

From what I heard, a twin-turbo V6 may end up being the "bottom end" engine offering on the Corvette. The upper Corvette's will continue using V8's. Again, just what I heard.

Right now so many things are in play at GM that we could say that the Corvette could go in many different directions. GM executives have been preparing the Corvette buyers for months and years now for a few radical shifts (through their comments and through directions they've taken in marketing programs)
By the time we get to 2014, a bigger question might be: will GM still own Corvette? One can't imagine why they'd ever sell one of their crown jewels, but we're in an environment where they are "cash poor and house rich" -- an analogy that a lot of people can relate to at the moment.

Thinking of cylinder count has me recalling the Scaglietti Corvette Italia prototypes. I can't accept a Corvette with the same type of engine found in a 1993 Toyota Supra. But I can accept one with a V-12...
Go upmarket. The 'Vette's image has already been watered-down enough.

The 93 Supra had an inline-6 engine. Not as pedestrian, but that's my opinion.
