Best pony car of the classic era?
Ducati Minor

The Ford Mustang may have ignited the new movement in the 1960s, but it wasn't the only car to hold a high place in the hearts of car drivers then & now. Which of the vintage "pony cars" was truly the best?

AMX: weird, rare, wonderful
Dave B.
The Camaro was clearly the best car of that genre. Especially the 302 Z-28. Ford was saddled with a 1960 Falcon platform for the Mustang and Cougar, and the Barracuda/Challenger were just complete pigs on the road. GM chassis refinement in the '60s was almost half a decade ahead of the domestic competition. I can't comment on the Javelin or AMX, 'cause I've never driven one.

I'll defend the 'Stang. The Camaro did enjoy a "more is better" philosophy behind it with more engines, more equipment options, and more power behind it. I always felt the 'Stang to be more refined and disciplined; that is an opinion echoed in the comparison tests of the time. Even though the '67 edition was the first step in the growth spurts that would mark the steel stallion's decline, the 1967 GT was the closest Ford Motor got to making the Mustang into a world-class grand tourer.
