What design trend do you love the most?

We are seeing designs of all sorts in today's market: from Ford's retro theme to Cadillac's "art & design" flavor, this has become a creative era of automotive sculpture.  Which design theme have you enjoyed seeing?  Which one do you think will be the most promising in the future?

Dave B.

Ford has a retro theme?

GINA from BMW

Cloth(material) over a frame..I like the idea or it transforming but even without that feature I could see the possibility of customising the look and think this design must be saving on weight... i wonder what that Z4 would look like in different space age material aluminium wrap that would insulate you from heat and cold...I also like the idea that there would be no more paint chips or scratches. Rips or tears could be less because the material gives and could possibly be repaired easily. The morph idea is truly cool like a V tec for body panels or like origami for space telescopes...BMW is still the "shit"

I'm not a big fan of many cars these days. It seems like creative license has been taken a little too far. When's the last time someone made a truly beautiful car that wasn't excessively "inspired" by previous designs?

The TT Mk1 might count, but that's about all I can think of.

Dave B.

The TT was "inspired" by old Auto Union aero speedsters.

Really, it's easier for me to list design trends I don't like.  The tall-car trend, for example, or the "corporate face" where the whole front end of the car becomes a logo.

ibmshark has a point though, when was the last time someone just tried to make a PRETTY car?  I think designers are too hung up on always pushing the limits, going for the most "extreme", how about making something that is attractive just for the sake of it?

I can name two right off the top of my head. I won't say which because pretty is in the eye of the beholder.

Nate Luzod

I agree on the "trends I don't like" part. Whatever brought us the likes of the PT Cruiser and the HHR needs to stop.

I think they were shooting for revolutionary, "looks for the sake of looks" (note I don't use the word "pretty") with the Mitsuoka Orochi. The outcome is debatable, but points for having some cahones I suppose.

Dave B.

Mena was gonna say "Solstice and Sky"...  :)

I find Alfa's MiTo both modern and quite pretty.

Ooooooooh!!! I forgot about that one!! That car is awesome. Is it coming to the States?

Dave B.

I agree with that Alfa.  Very nice.  When is it headed to the USA?

Ducati Minor

I'm with Mena about the GM twins.  In fact, I prefer those twins to the original pony car twins of the late '60s.  And I also dig that Alfa.
