GMC Syclone/Typhoon... worthy of Keeper status?
Christopher Smith
Around these parts, we consider a Keeper to be more than just a car with a big engine. Then again, there's something to be said for a vehicle that breaks the mold, and that's where the Syclone and Typhoon keep us scratching our heads. There's no question these two rides are performance legends, but are they truly more than the sum of their parts? We tend to think so, but then again, some of us like to surf shopping carts. Here's your chance to weigh in on the subject.

Oh yes, I remember these quite well, even though I haven't seen them in some time. Thanks for that trip down memory lane!

I can't imagine it as a Keeper.
Now, the Ford Raptor, in a few years, after the magic of depreciation, that could be a "Keeper".

I owned Syclone #2424 for 6 years (bougt it from my next door neighbor in '93) and loved every minute of it! Maintained it properly and never had any trouble, although I knew they could be a tad fragile. Sold it to a college student here in Orlando in 1999 in order to buy a new Ford SVT Lightning, which I still own. (Guess I just love hotrod pickups.)
But the amazing part of this story is ..... the guy who bought my Syclone 10 years ago still owns it, and it still looks and runs like brand new!
I'd say that qualifies it as a Keeper.

I still own a 1993 Typhoon (#194) which I bought w/20k miles 12+ years ago. As everyone knows, they are finicky (e.g., tranny replacements), yet it's easy to add significant bolt-on horsepower (too many to list on mine). Fortunately mine still looks and runs like new and folks can't believe it is 17 years old.
Allthough the resale value has fallen over the years, they are still a blast to drive and I'm still enjoying the looks from folks who recognize SyTy's for their rarity and performance.

I really like those too. What do they drive like? Do they beat you to death on the street or are they fairly comfortable? Do they feel quick? Or are they just quick for their time? Just curious.
Many Thanks
