Keepers: 99 / 01 SVT Cobra

Christopher Smith

It was a tough call, choosing between the 99/01 New Edge Cobras and the 03/04 Termintors. This round, the nod goes to the naturally-aspirated cars, but should the swan-song of N/A Cobras just be left to pasture? Should Ford have just dropped the Cobra after 98 until the supercharged Terminators were ready, or do the 99 and 01 cars deserve a bit more respect?

Discuss.

If prices are as low as you say, get one, put a Vortech supercharger on it, and go Terminator hunting.  You'll still only be at half the price of a typical 03/04 Cobra.  A good friend of mine has a 01 with the Vortech and a dyno sheet proving 500hp output.  That, combined with 4:10 gears makes the car an unbelieveable rocket.

I owned a '99 Cobra. The biggest difference other than the engine between it and the Terminator is the weight. The '99-'01 have an alumimum block and weigh 200-300 lbs. less. Be careful going Terminator hunting though. Very few are stock and it doesn't take much to get over 500 rwhp out of one.

These videos all show the same rather notorious intersection during Mustang Week, as the big mall just out of camera shot to the left is where the car show takes place. 500 Mustangs plus a day of machismo-speak and horsepower bragging equals a recipe for mayhem. Throw in a street lined with spectators and videos cameras and well ... you get the idea.

Okay, another near miss, but the "just like last year" comment is referring to this vid:

 And another one....

You get the feeling I could do this all day?
