Would you consider a scooter or a motorcycle in an era of high gas?

Let's face it: the price at the pump is high, and it isn't going to get any easier. With superb power-to-weight ratios, low prices, and excellent mileage, would any of you consider moving to just two wheels to save a buck...or a few thousand?

I live in the west. Scooters seem scary beyond a pure urban setting. So, I'm thinking motorcycle to handle in town and suburban riding.

I would do it for just to have fun and have considered it many times but my wife and I are worried about me getting hit. I would probably only use for commutes and the chances are low if I just do that (rural commute...no traffic). Gas prices aren't that bad yet where I would have to give up a car to drive a motorcycle. When it costs $300 a week to fill our car and truck up AND if our incomes remain static, ask me again.

I would absolutely consider a scooter for a commuter vehicle if I wasn’t driving press vehicle to review on a nightly basis. With only a very short (two miles) drive to the office every morning, my only real concern would be getting by in the five-months of Michigan winter. I’d also probably look long and hard at the ever-growing options for EV scooters as well, though the premium can be a bit intimidating for all but the most Chinese of these options.
