370Z: How Firm/Harsh is the Ride?
Lear
I've read that the 370Z has a very firm ride. How big a problem is this?

A friend is interested in one but hasn't test driven it yet. It's a street car so I doubt it could be that bad.

If you live in an urban area where it freezes a lot, the ride could be pretty unpleasant or well-sorted in my experience. I'm not thinking of luxo-ride (I don't want that), but super stiff suspensions are just plain tiring over hundreds or thousands of frost heaves and expansion joints. From what I've read the 370Z is pretty stiff, but I don't know if that means "compared to an Altima it is pretty stiff" or "stiffer than a Cayman or Z06".

Considering the reports on the cars handling and the numbers it's producing. I would say that it's close to Z06 and Cayman and pretty far from Altima. I mean the 350Z was pretty far from the Altima. Hell, the 350Z was stiffer than my Solstice.

Sure. My bad. I should have said is the statement "the 370Z suspension is stiff" meant to convey a) Z06 stiff, b) Cayman stiff or c) Jag XK stiff? All are firm suspensions, but there are degrees. The Z06 is the stiffest of these (and other examples could be used) and has issues with bump steer and axle hop on boken pavement. The Cayman is less stiff, with better compliance, but you feel most bumps clearly. The XK has firm damping, but smooths each bump out a bit.

I wish my friend would at least go drive one so we would know for sure. Maybe I'll go to the dealer with him.

In your example, the 370Z is about as stiff as the Z06, but about as smooth as the Cayman (i.e. not harsh, unlike the Z06). See the Ask It on the 370Z Nismo for more on this.

The 370z is tight and stiff. It has a much smoother ride and stiffer suspension than the 350Z. Rides excellent on 20'' rims too. All around great car!
