Truck Bed Tonneau Covers and MPG

dieselhead

I hear that adding a tonneau cover to my truck bed can get me 1-2 miles per gallon improvement. Is that right?

Mena

Not sure on that. But I would check out one of the truck forums if you don't get an answer here.

JWBrothers

I'm not sure where I learned this, (may have been on Mythbusters) but the results of MPG tests on pick-ups said that...

Hard tonneau cover added 1-3 MPG

Topper added 1/2-1 MPG (Speculated that added weight kept the improvement down)

Net instead of tailgate added 1/2 MPG. (Speculated that lower weight actually made the difference.)

Tailgate up is the standard MPG

Tailgate down was down 1 MPG

Many Thanks

Jim

PS Please feel free to correct me with facts you may have. I did the whole chart from memory:^)

Trucking Accessories

Hey that's cool. Covers help more than I figured. Thanks for the "facts". Peace.

I got this awesome tonneau cover By Pace Edwards. It rolls up in to a canister in the front of the bed taking up only a little bit of room. pace edwards claims that the cover decreases drag by 11.81% which in turn give you better fuel millage It keeps all my stuff secure and dry!!! I bought it from http://truckaccessoryplace.com
