Will The New Prius Attract More Hybrid Converts?
Seyth Miersma

We’ve discussed in our first drive review that the 2010 Prius is a considerably better drive than the outgoing model, with more room, and a lot more technology to boot. There’s no question that the last car won the hearts and minds of many Americans to the hybrid cause, will this car have a similar impact, or is it time for a new standard-bearer to emerge (Honda Insight perhaps)? I think the 2010 Gen 3 Prius will win over a group of fence sitters that are in the market for a new car with proven reliability and an enhanced hybrid drivetrain. Yes Honda has the new Insight at a competitive price but Toyota holds the lionshare of the hybrid market.Toyota has raised the bar in hybrid development and are keeping the price competative. Even in this unstable economy those who are looking to purchase a new "green" vehicle I think would take a serious look at the Prius over lets say the Ford Fusion Hybrid mainly because of the Toyota's proven track record.

The 2004 Prius was a total refresh that came at the right time and looked like nothing else on the road. The '10 is an altered form facing more competition from Honda and Chevrolet. The '10 will be an improvement, I'm sure, but it won't be the status symbol the second-gen model was. It's like comparing the Ford Model A to the T, Jacko's Bad to Thriller, or Cher's early '90s face to her late '80s one.
