To Joe Nobody, watching an old white guy in a suit makes for an easy target on a talk show.  For all that, I've seen Bill O'Reilly and John McCain (the stereotypes) handle themselves very well on these comedy situations where questions and actions aren't pre-planned.  Lutz is a candid guy and he should've expected Colbert's jabs.  He was able to manage it towards the end, though.  Lutz has to understand that to the young (and often gullible), he's part of "the Machine" that is killing Mother Earth and doesn't give a damn about cutting back.  Lutz is the right guy for GM.  He has to be more charismatic to the younger generation who aren't gearheads.

I liked how the question about global warming really got him... I don't really see the point of this car, it's not much different from the Toyota Prius... except that it can run for 40 miles without gas

I wouldn't touch ANY of those shows with a ten foot pole if I was in such a position. And I even enjoy watching the Colbert Report and others. It's not Lutz's job to appeal to the hip crowd. F%&k the hip crowd. His job is to run GM. Ensure the company is profitable by making products people will buy. Leave the f%&kin hip crowd BS to the marketing department, that's THEIR job.

Bob Lutz has spent his life fighting every day in a serious business working with serious people and engaged in serious conversations. When he or any of us would come up against the likes of Colbert, I think we'd come up short. No one is prepared for Colbert's absurd comments masquerading as hard hitting questions. That's the genius of his comedy. You can't be ready for it.

People, this is the same company that made and then killed the EV1. Why are they wasting money researching something they've already developed, marketed and produced? No matter how they try to spin it, the one and only reason any of these companies are making hybrids is because the oil cartels won't let them do otherwise. Pardon my cynicism, but it reflects reality - an entirely electric vehicle is an overall superior product for the purposes of everyday practicality, and simply cruising the Web for a few minutes will prove that the majority of advances in this field are being made in spite of the major manufacturers. Think what could be accomplished if these guys would quit playing pocket pool and put some serious effort behind legitimate research, instead of stopgap measures designed to please a few wealthy b@$tards who already own everything anyway.
