How Can Detroit Keep Selling SUV's and Light Trucks
I'm in the same boat (pun intended) that a lot of people today are in. I drive a light truck and really wish there was something I could do about the amount to cash I have to spend at the gas station.
Lately I've been searching the Web to find out how I could modify my truck to burn Compressed Natural Gas. It appears that there are too many regulatory roadblocks in the way for the average consumer to attempt to convert their existing vehicle.
It occurred to me that compressed natural gas might be Detroit's answer to declining SUV and light truck sales. Using a idea that Honda has already introduced by packaging natural gas powered cars with a home refueling station, but taking that one step further by continuing to provide gas fuel in a dual fueled version.
This arrangement would allow owners to refuel the truck or SUV at home with natural gas and burn that most of the time while commuting and on short trips, but then switch to gasoline when the CNG tank gets low on longer trips away from home or convenient CNG fueling stations.
I were in the market for a new truck or SUV today I'd buy one.

...Cute Idea, but what about Explosion -collision problems, breakdowns, etc.,.. Most people who buy trucks just want a good, solid, vehicle they can load up the tools with, SLAM the doors , and try to fix in an emergency!..TATA is still just a babe in the woods, trying to carve away more high paying jobs, by selling cute little cars and trucks--kindalike the Subaru Brat. Something to get headlines ...GM, FORD, and Chrysler, built (AMC) small fuel efficient cars in the late '50's and '60's..Falcon, Corvair, darts, etc., But Nader-Nazis, and safety-pollution standards kept raising prices, so people bought Intermediates with power fo a few $$ More!...The Big 3 WANTS to make money ...Figure it out!..You need money to make money!...ALL the cheap Foreign cars are here because of ASian Currency manipulations, GOVT. Support , and the fact that the USA is bankrupt and has to do what Asia, Mid. EAST others who buy US Bonds TELL THEM to DO!!..But it's a lot EASIER to Just Blame Detroit...Face it FOLKS..THE USA Can't even control it,s own Destiny..BECAUSE THE USA GOVT. HAS TO KISS A--..THAT"S WHY OUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS ARE STILL DYING IN FAR OFF LANDS FOREIGN AND US GOVTS> want them to!!
