Hyundai Considering i10 Microcar For U.S.

While we’ve encouraged Hyundai to continue to rock the enthusiast establishment with the introduction of higher-quality, powerful vehicles such as the Genesis rear-wheel-drive sedan, it appears the company is considering extending its product lineup in another direction as well. Word is spreading that the South Korean manufacturer is looking to bring its Indian-built i10 five-door hatchback to America at some point, according to a report in Automotive News .

The diminutive i10 would be slotted between a Honda Fit and Smart ForTwo, length-wise, although Hyundai officials say the car would need roughly 400 lbs in heft to get it up to U.S. crash standards. The i10 currently weighs 1892 lbs with a manual transmission. Even with a 400-lb penalty, the i10 would undercut the Fit’s curb weight of roughly 2400 lbs.

Hyundai officials aren’t providing any clear indication of an on-sale date, but admit that they’re using the Smart ForTwo as a temperature taker for our market’s responsiveness. If the Smart sells well, expect Hyundai to look very seriously about bringing the i10 to U.S. dealerships as a Hyundai, Kia, or both.

this is anything but a performance car. when you get 0-60 in above 10 sec that means the car is slow. I don't really know the exact performance numbers for this car. but with 80 hp and FF layout, don't call it a performance car.

If it's Indian-built, they risk harming the image for quality that they've worked so hard to build in the US.

Grafting on 21% of the weight of the car to meet US safety requirements sounds like an invitation to problems. It almost becomes a different vehicle at that point. I don't think we'll ever see it.

The problem with comparing it with a Fortwo instead of the more plausible Yaris or Fit is that the i10 doesn't have that certain quirkiness that makes the Fortwo so interesting to a lot of people. From the look of those pictures it looks about as fun as an Aveo, with comparable build quality. The addition of 400 lbs. (!) of crash-worthiness means a larger engine to get it going, making its fuel economy suffer. I think it's a bad move on Hyundai's part. Quit moping about it and design a lightweight, fuel-efficient small hatch for our market already! We've proven they'll sell, why flip-flop about it?

IMO, I think the car makers are worried that our sudden small car love is short lived and we'll go back to SUV's. I'd be a little gun shy too at this point. They'll probably wait till next year before making any real decisions.

You need to go through long distances sometimes, making you buy a lot of Teleport scrolls with your Rose zuly just to go to the cities. The quests are OK and have a good storyline so far, and you will gain a good amount of experience by grinding and rose zulie too. Im 18 years old and as a struggling student who enjoys racing UGG
