Elantra Touring

Hyundai's Elantra Touring, a cheaper alternative to the Mazda3 hatchback, will go on sale in the near future with a base price of $18,495. As is the norm with Hyundai products, the list of standard features is seemingly endless, including remote keyless entry, air conditioning, steering wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls, cooled glove box, 172-watt AM/FM/CD/MP3/Satellite radio (with USB and auxiliary input jacks), and an eight-way adjustable driver's seat.

As for options, customers can order up a four-speed automatic transmission instead of the standard five-speed manual, and there's also a Premium Sport package which includes heated front seats, a sunroof, and seventeen-inch alloy wheels. The Elantra touring should be hitting dealerships within the coming months.

This may be a good value compared to the Mazda3, but strictly from a value perspective it will need lots of incentives to compete with the Sonata. With current incentive, a Sonata similarly configured (maybe without the alloys) is about $15k-$16k. I prefer the small wagon style over the full-size sedan, but it's hard to swallow the price penalty.

I like the Yaris, too - the three-door hatch model - But I like a small wagon that can be had with a five-speed, too. Practical and maybe a bit fun to drive,as well.

The base Elantra is $13,000 imoore. They cant price a wagon for that cheap. How is it a $12,000 car, when it has better fit and finish as well as performance than other C-segments that cost $15,000?

The Sedan version of the Elantra is Hyundai's way of pleasing the American Market. They have to market a version for the baby boomers who cant think outside the box. For for guys who want to dream that they are driving a big expensive sedan EVEN THOUGH A PROPER C-SEGMENT SHOULD NOT BE A SEDAN, EVER!!!!!! However, I think them bringing the i30CW as the Elantra Touring was a big mstake. They should have brought over the i30 instead. Then again Hyundai does have a certain market in America who buys their cars. People like myself who want something with a conservative look (Boring Look to most people), yet modern as well, with a near luxury fit and finish, at a lower cost. Therefore, this car is not competing with Mazda3. Its here to undercut the Audi Avant and Volvo wagons. I love Hyundais, but if they bring in another Accent sedan for the next generation over bringing the i20 as an Accent replacement, I might get a used Prius Hybrid.
