Tuning: Katech Corvette Z06 ClubSport Offers Lightweight Performance

Katech Z06

Do you have over $100,000 to spend on a Corvette but don't want to give in to the hype of the fantastic new ZR1? Katech has the car for you. Based out of Clinton Township, Michigan, Katech has long been known for its high-performance engines and professional racing developments and Winding Road has had the opportunity to test one of its previous creations, the Street Attack Corvette Z06.

The new Corvette Z06 ClubSport incorporates an array of products in order to reduce the curb weight of the Z06 to a minimum of 2825 pounds (a reduction of over 260 pounds) while improving grip, cornering, braking, and downforce. All of this is done with the addition of a Brembo Gran Turismo brake kit, a double-adjustable Clubsport suspension, special wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires, carbon-fiber air intake, performance exhaust, and twin-disc clutch.

Katech boasts this Z06 as a "Scuderia" or "Superleggera" variant even though engine output has not been tweaked. For a price of $109,000, we'd rather have the new ZR1, but this Z06 ClubSport is still a unique transformation for track-day Corvette enthusiasts.

KATECH PERFORMANCE UNVEILS LIGHTWEIGHT Z06 FOR THE TRACK
New ClubSport Package Shaves Pounds to Shave Seconds off Lap Times

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Katech Performance, ever attuned to the collective conscious of the Corvette universe, knew this – enthusiasts wanted a lighter weight Z06 tuned for the track. Now they have it.

The Corvette Z06 ClubSport package – available exclusively from Katech Performance and Les Stanford Chevrolet (Dearborn, Mich.) – incorporates an array of aftermarket products that, in unison, reduce curb weight to 2,915 lbs. (2,825 lbs. fully optimized) while improving grip, cornering, braking and downforce.

“The Z06 is already wonderfully light weight,” commented Jason Harding, performance parts sales, Katech Performance. “We knew, however, that we could improve the power-to-weight ratio with several select modifications. Lamborghini has its Gallardo Superleggera, Ferrari its F430 Scuderia and Dodge its Viper ACR. Now the Corvette Z06 has the ClubSport package from Katech Performance.”

What does one feed Chevrolet’s already well-conditioned athlete to shed pounds and improve its game? The ClubSport diet calls for:

Brembo® Gran Turismo Brake Kit
Two-piece cross-drilled rotors significantly reduce un-sprung rotating mass; front six-piston monobloc calipers squeeze 14-inch rotors; rear four-piston monobloc calipers pinch 13.6-inch rotors

Moton Clubsport Suspension
Double-adjustable coil-overs enhance power-to-the-pavement delivery while offering seven individually adjustable rebound and compression settings; system is specially tuned by Moton engineers and SCCA World Challenge professional driver Andy Pilgrim

Katech Performance ClubSport Wheels
15-spoke, single-piece forged aluminum wheels (18x9.5-inch front; 19x12-inch rear) further reduce un-sprung rotating mass; finished in attractive gray powder coat

Michelin® Pilot® Sport Cup Tires
Enhance grip and handling while reducing total mass (285/30R18 front; 325/30R19 rear)

Katech Performance Appearance Package
Carbon fiber front splitter improves aerodynamics and is complemented by a matching carbon fiber rear spoiler that improves downforce; lift-off carbon fiber World Challenge hood vents the engine compartment, reduces weight by 50% and provides more downforce; ClubSport racing stripe on front fenders and rear fascia identifies vehicle as an exclusive Katech Performance creation

Halltech Killer Bee™ Air Intake
Carbon fiber intake designed specifically to complement Katech Performance’s carbon fiver valve covers

Katech Performance Exhaust System
Lightweight 18-gauge stainless steel design incorporating X-pipe, two lightweight mufflers, over-axle pipes and CORSA® quad tips; reduces weight and produces a deep, racecar-like tone while maintaining a civil pitch on public roads

Exedy Twin-Disc Clutch
Reduces drivetrain mass and makes for easy rev-matched downshifts

Braille Battery
All-season; reduces weight in the rear

Several optional supplements are also available including: Caravaggio leather race seats; A/C and/or radio delete as well as carpet delete to further reduce weight; roll bar or harness bar and six-point harnesses; and an ARE dry sump system.

So what’s the final verdict? A power-to-weight ratio of 5.45 lbs./horsepower (standard) or 5.28 lbs./horsepower (fully optimized).

Complete with a 12-month/12,000-mile warranty, the Katech Performance Z06 ClubSport starts at $109,000 (standard) and is expected to maintain 50-state emissions compliance*. Power plant improvements – including an array of modified LS7 engine packages – are also available for customers who want to upgrade to a true Katech Performance “Street Attack” Z06.

give me one good reason why i should put 100 k on this if i can put a bit more to get the ultimate beast (ZR1).

If I want a track oriented vette, I'll swap in some quad adjustable Moton's on the ZR1 with the same wheel/tire package as this car.

Because dealers are adding $25k+ (some adding $40k)to the zr1 & almost $3k for chrome wheels if you want 'em thats $131k or more.

Damn.  I like it.

The KTec Z06 for $100,00 over the price of the Zo6 ($$180,000! and even the new Corvette ZR1 at $105, o are not good values, nor due they offer as good a performance as a lightly modified stock Z06 for just $20,000 additional to stock $70,000.

The stock Z06 L7 engine is so under tuned it does not need to be replace liked on the higher cost ars, and why setttle for less of an engine in the ZR1 with a complicated bolt-on blower.

I have a Z06 which has only been modified with a great LAPD cam, Kooks headers and race cats, heads milled .020 to increase compressin to 11.8 and a good dyno tune. It pulls like a train fron 1,500 RPM and peaks at 640hp! As much or more than the Ktech and ZR1engines for about $5,000 parts a labor. And it revs quicker with the stock titanium rods and valves, dry sump.

I've upgrade the suspension to the awesome Eibech/Calloway adjust resevoir coi over shocks. The wheels are CCW 18 x10Fs and 18x12Rs with Michelin Pilot race 295 front / 335 rear so it out coreners the Ktech vete and the ZR! with wider, better tores and suspension. The car is lightened up and braking imprved with aftermarket 2-pice rotars.

The car now weighs just 3030lbs w/ 640hp - that's a weight to power of 4.73 lbs / HP which is far quicker than the Ktech (5.05 to 1?)or the ZR1 for just $20,000 over the cost of a stock ZR1 (5.4/1) . Don't dream about a those overpriced showoffs when you can build a better Corvette Supercar yourself from bolt-on parts, for far less money.

You are correct about the L7 engine. I had mine tuned with some of the same stuff and it has turned into a beast without a blower. Have not touched the suspension, but that is next. My mod will do low 10's and over 130 in quarter mile with street tires. not bad for a heck of lot less than $100K. keep her on the road. jfs

no reason to buy this... Z06 pulls 1.07g's on the skidpad... stock! handles like a beast...ZR1 is absolutely perfect

Gentleman, of cause you can modifier any vehicle but the lighter weight of the new ZR1 Corvette is a very big plus! If you modifier your Corvette smartly you can get great performance, increase gas mileage, and a motor that burns much cleaner. I own a 2001 Z06 with only 5, 000 miles on it. I modified my motor with a Magna Supercharger and the power is indescribable with this 13 to 1 motor. The gas mileage increased to around 32 miles a gallon on the open road and the smog readings in two locations were 0 emissions; and that is great all around performance. The new ZR1 will have a Magna Supercharger and a larger motor then mine with less weight; it will be interesting to see if the larger motor will burn as clean as my smaller engine with as good gas mileage.

like it very much, just lose the black wheels.

Lara

Why are they putting a piggyback on a car whose ECU has already been cracked? Also, I can only imagine the price of this mod. Add $10k for the HKS name.

The rectangle shaped face needs links of londonjewelry that adds width and camouflages the length of the face. A highchoker reduces the length of the face, particularly if the neck is toolong. In addition, a 16¡å or 18¡å necklace that ends in a ¡°U¡±flatters this face. Long hair and narrow links of london is perfect match which can impress others as a fair lady. Fancy clothes coordinating links of london with slight tint could be better.

Im 18 years old and as a struggling student who enjoys racing UGG
Boots
ultra short Le its becoming extremely expensive and harder to
attend and enjoy a days racing.
Sure a student with a part time UGGS upside job would
have to save for a few weeks to consider attending a raceday as expensive as
this. I see that
Fairyhouse are racing on the 19th of this month and are charging UGGS
whitely boots 5e entry fee.
Its up to other tracks to follow suit and use some initiative to offer better
value to the normal racegoer….Pretty good air jordan post. I just found your site and wanted to say that I have really
enjoyed browsing your Bailey Button UGG Boots posts. In any case I’ll be
