Lost Concepts: 1981 BMW M2 Concept by Colani

Since its demise in 1981, the BMW M1 has been a car that the motoring public has fervently craved a successor for. Last year, BMW renewed some of those latent desires with its bold M1 Homage concept but long before that Luigi Colani had an M2 design of his own to offer.

Colani’s 1981 M2 was purely a styling exercise, and offered a completely revolutionary new path for the BMW flagship. That Colani had become rather preoccupied with aerodynamic form is readily evident here. Have a closer look at the slippery M2 concept in our gallery above.
