Advertising Bonanza: Automotive Ad Placement

It's no surprise that auto manufacturers pay big bucks to get their products into television and movies. Most recent examples include General Motors' vehicles in Transformers, every vehicle in The Matrix, and Ford replacing the Pontiac in the upcoming Knight Rider movie.

It's not exactly a new idea either, check out this ad from 1962 that went out to the dealers. This segment adds Bewitched characters and Robert Vaughn, while he was on The Man From U.N.C.L.E., to talk about Chevrolet's lineup for 1965. Parnell Roberts introduces the '65 Corvette Stingray on the streets of Chevrolet City, and touts its side vents and new-for-'65, disc brakes. Robert Vaughn shows off the Corvair's telescopic steering column, while Elizabeth Montgomery and Agnes Moorehead nose in the Chevelle. Michael Landon shows off the "swinging and sport-loving" Impala.

Oh brother! What a laugh! The 1965 Corvair, "... the most sophisticated car you can buy." I guess if the sponsor says "Do it!", you do it!
