villeneuvejacqueshl.jpgNASCAR’s Bill Davis Racing has confirmed that former Formula One world champion Jacques Villeneuve is out as the driver of its number 27 Sprint Cup car for next weekend’s race at Fontana, as well as the foreseeable future. Truck Series drivers Mike Skinner and Johnny Benson will replace the Canadian driver, alternating races with Skinner taking the wheel for the Fontana race.

BDR team manager Mike Brown said on Friday that Villeneuve’s drive had been contingent on a pending sponsorship deal that never materialized. Villeneuve is out for an undefined number of races at this point, though BDR said in a statement that it would continue to “support his plans of racing in the Sprint Cup series.
