Name Our Long-Term Volkswagen Jetta TDI

Great news! We took delivery of our long-term Volkswagen Jetta TDI this morning, and we're quite excited about spending the next 365 days with the little diesel-burner. Since we normally only keep cars in our test fleet for a week or two, it will be interesting to see how our Jetta holds up after one year of driving. More importantly, we're curious to see what kind of overall fuel economy numbers are observed.

Since the Jetta will indeed become a trusty steed for our staff, we'd like to give it some extra personal touches, including a name. Thus, we're looking to you, our readers, for suggestions on what to name our Laser Blue Jetta TDI. Leave a comment with your best suggestion for a name, and if your name is picked, we'll send you some free Winding Road swag, including a couple of t-shirts, mugs, pins, and keychains.

Click through the images in the gallery above to see a bunch of shots of our new long-term Jetta TDI.

trusty steed.... how about "Trigger" ?

I'd usually go with a German name for a German car (or possibly a Mexican one, as the dub uses a lot of Mexican parts), but I'll second the vote on, 'Trigger'...I like it! :)

Bluey

Within the past few weeks an Australian couple established a record breaking drive around the USA in a similar car. One of their national cartoon characters who has been around just about as long as VW is named "Bluey" his good mate was Curley;

Since its a TDI, then the handle should be TeeDee. Cute?

With 236 pound-feet of torque and 140 horsepower, and a black and blue color scheme--- Bruise(r) comes to mind.

Stevelovescars

Vehicles are usually feminine, but I would go for Rudolf, after Rudolf Diesel.

I hope the VW TDi cars renew interest by other manufacturers to finally start making some of the European small Diesels here in the States.

Helga, My friend had an 80's Jetta TDI and she ran up until 2003 when she caught on fire...lol She had over 200k.

Nate Luzod

I still vote for "Jettadiah" - though I can't vote since I work here. . .

In England, diesel is slang for heroin. How about calling it "Habit"?

stevedbmw

Stealing from above without shame: Blaue-Teddi

Donald

How about naming it Bloo, after the character from 'Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.'

Reasons:
1. The car is blue, and the character is blue
2. The car is fun to drive and has a lot of character, and Bloo is a fun guy with a lot of character
3. The character Bloo can be a real pain in the arse, as any VW has the potential to be after extended ownership (as evident with my love/hate relationship with my former Golf)
4. You can go to Hot Topik and get a cool little keychain of the Bloo character to attach to your key fob

Al Greene

Call it Smokey Lite

One of the the many Vdubs I have had was a '00 TDI Jetta and I loved it! The torque and fuel economy made the car very satisfying to own and drive. I always thought that car had "tank" like power (strong and steady), it just pulled so hard. I nomoinate the name "Hank" short for "Hank the Tank" from on of my favorite movie characters

Bjorn

+ for Jughead's Teddi

Question for WR, why didn't you pick up the SportWagon instead? More luggage space, same MPG.

tmartin

We wanted the Sportwagen, we asked for the Sportwagen, but you can't always git watcha want...

GABadger

Vin. As in Vin Diesel.

diddy

Name it Soylent Blue

sfduckett

"Ka-Bluey!" As in the sound it will make when a staffer winds it up past its intended RPM!

Green Scirocco

What is a better name for a diesel car than to be named RUDOLPH, after the inventor of the diesel motor, Rudolph Diesel.

Arthur Einstein

I concur with the guys who suggest Rudolph - but since he is also a Red Nosed Reindeer
I'd simply go with RUDY ( Acronym for R U Diesel Yet?)

Jac

I'm thinking "Azure TDI" will allow the mind to complete the sentence...
