Spy Shot: Porsche Boxster RS, Or Just An Appearance Package?

Could this be the long-rumoured Boxster RS, or is it just an appearance package? That’s the question our spy photographer posed to us after following this black beauty track its way around the Nurburgring this week. If his lens does not deceive us, we’re leaning toward RS status.

In these photos you can see a large, fixed rear wing as opposed to the Boxster’s standard retractable unit. To keep weight down, polycarbonate windows are used in place of glass. Visually, there’s evidence of revised lights in front and rear as well as new bumpers.

Below the beltline, note also the use of PCCB, Porsche’s ceramic composite brake system. Of course, those are optional on the Boxster in any case, so that might be a moot point. However, there’s a new wheel design, which could go some way toward assisting with brake cooling. If the bits and pieces seen here do end up positioned as a range-topping RS model, expect power figures of 320 to 330 horsepower, or some 30 more than the Boxster S.

Why make an RS of the Boxster better to do it of the Coxster(Cayman)? Looks to me like the new DI Boxster, note new led (997 DI like) rear lenses. Body kit is probably new factory aerokit. Now the wheels are a question, they look like the Carrera Sports (option XRR) from the 997.

I agree. I think this is "just" the new DI Boxster.

Am I mssing something here?. sure looks like a folding hardtop to me! Was this an announced model that I missed?

Lara

Why are they putting a piggyback on a car whose ECU has already been cracked? Also, I can only imagine the price of this mod. Add $10k for the HKS name.
