Production Honda Insight Hybrid to Debut at NAIAS in January
Honda has announced plans to show off the production version of its new 2009 Insight at the North American International Auto Show in January—releasing a single image of the new car in the process. Honda’s second stab at the Insight eschews the less-than-practical two-seat coupe configuration in favor of a much more livable four-door sedan. The Insight proposes to be the most affordable hybrid available anywhere when it goes on sale next spring (pricing hasn’t been firmed up yet though) and Honda has high hopes of selling around 200,000 of them annually.

TORRANCE, Calif., Dec. 3, 2008 - The all-new 2009 Honda Insight hybrid will make its world debut in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The five-passenger, five-door Insight is expected to be the most affordable hybrid car available when it goes on sale in the spring of 2009. I'll take one. I wish Honda would make it flex-fuel so that it can run on butanol, ethanol or other forms of alcohol that are likely to come from the extensive research currently going into alternative bio fuels. I have seen reports that it cost about $50 more to make a vehicle flex-fuel. Why is it impossible to find a smaller size, more environmentally sustainable car that is flex-fuel?

One reason is that there is not alot of fuel stations that sell E85, or similar fuels. Not in NY, and NJ anyway.

...because the Fisker isn't on sale yet. I was making the point that I would never drive something that looks like a prius. If the Fisker was affordable I'm sure they would cross shop.

I'll guess that the similarity in shapes has something to do with aerodynamics and packaging - both the powertrain, and the ability to shoehorn enough folks inside . . .

Yeah, that's true to a point. But look at the Lexus LS430. It has a drag coefficient equal to that of a Prius and is so much better looking.
