Question of the Day: What's Your Favorite Type of Classic Car Event?

GM display at PB 2008

With both the Woodward Dream Cruise and Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance festivities having taken place this past weekend, we want to know: What is your favorite type of classic car event? Is it historic racing, a particular concours event, a swap meet, or just a cruise-in at your local ice cream shop? Recount your favorites in ‘Comments.’

I prefer events where the cars move. Golf course lawns of old metal just puts me to sleep. On that note, I really want to see Goodwood's Festival of Speed at some point.

I have to agree with Reilly on this, while I have attended my fair share of Concours events I prefer to see these cars at speed and hear them run as God, Enzo, Ettore et al. intended. Which is why I have been attending the Monterey Historic Auto races Since 1976. It's intoxicating the variety of sights and sounds generated by these machines and their pilots. I like Reilly hope to make it to Goodwood, as soon as I convince my wife that we need a vacation in the UK.

Charles

I like all the shows at Carlisle Pa,the Auto Fair in Charlotte NC is also a great show!

The concours events are nice to attend, but I'll agree with you folks - Live, moving cars are preferable, by far. Goodwood is a great experience, but even local small events, such as hillclimbs with a vintage class, are fine ways to enjoy these cars in motion.  Still, I'd like to go to the Woodward Dream Cruise some August.

Zarba

My favorite is Amelia Island. Low-key, wonderful cars, and manageable crowds. You can still get a reasonably-priced hotel room, and the event is very well managed.

I have to admit that a trip to Goodwood is at the top of the Wish List.

Mena

I agree with others. Goodwood. Someday I'll actually get to see it in person.
