Question of the Day: Which is Your Favorite Lotus Ever?

We got pretty pumped about seeing Bond’s Lotus Esprit again today—even if we probably won’t get to bid on it—so we thought we’d ask about witch of Hethel’s finest makes you the hottest under the collar? Which Lotus is your favorite of all time? Give us your answer, and a picture if you can find one, in comments.

The Elise I drove on my honeymoon will always hold a special place in my heart

I vote for the Elite...who doesn't like their car to come apart whilst driving?

I all seriousness though, the new ones are the best of the bunch, specifically the new 2+2 looks pretty sweet.

Lotus Europe from the mid 60s - mid 70s.

D70

As we are onto our 3rd and 4th Miatas, ( 1990 and 2001 ) the Elan has got to be the Lotus of choice. We have driven the Elise and its a mighty fine car as well.

11.

The Lotus Seven, of course. That was a real man's or woman's Lotus. None of the effete stuff like roll up windows and a heater.

Ducati Minor

The Eleven.

Seven and as evidence of it being the best, Caterham has a nice little business still building the same car today and it's still banned from a lot of racing classes.

The original Elan, the Eleven, the Europa, and (don't snort) The '90 Elan - I know it is front wheel drive, etc., But I do like the styling of it for some reason . . .

The Lotus Carlton and of course the 23B

Not sure if this counts, but I've always thought the Lotus-modified Ford Cortina from the mid-1960's was kind of cool.

THE BEST EVER LOTUS IS THE 3rd GENERATION (introduced in 2006) MAZD MX5 MIATA!
Sadly, it took Mazda to perfect the Lotus; just as it took Yamaha and its SX-650 (introduced in 1969 and produced until 1986) to perfect the Triumph Bonneville).
Too bad Lotus could not make a top the goes up & down from the drivers seat with one hand in 5 seconds. More significantly, it is too bad the English could not make an affordable light-weight 2-seater that could handle like a Lotus, go 200,000 miles between overhauls (virtually maintenance free) and accelerated the 1/4 in 14.9 sec.
Well, the market-place tells the tale; The Miata is the Best Selling roadster of all time and a road-worthy Lotus is a rear find.

If we're opening the definition to include Miatas, I'll nominate the Corvette ZR-1.

Seriously, the 11.

Rod Panhard

You're asking me about my position on Lotus? Well, I once spent a weekend with an Eclat, and I was so thrilled with it that I bought a Miata.

The Seven and..... the Seven!

magicv8

None. They are for little people. At 6feet 4inches, I don't fit in any of them.

Lotus Seven will always be the best.
