Report: No Hands on Deck at Tesla Showroom Today

The internet was aflutter with rumors of a big shakeup over at Tesla Motors last week, with some sources claiming that up to 100 employees could be laid off after the young automaker suffered a financial blow alongside pretty much everyone else in the industry. At the time we were led to believe that the company was putting all future projects on hold—more specifically the much-discussed four-door Model S, or WhiteStar—and that the company was closing up shop in its Auburn Hills, Michigan engineering office while keeping the fires burning at the San Jose, California headquarters.

Now it seems as if all may not be well in Cali either, as Los Angelinos have started murmuring that the spanking new Tesla showroom has remained closed for business today. One savvy resident said, “The lights are off, the doors are closed and locked, nobody and no cars around.”

There could be any number of reasons that the Tesla crew took this particular Monday off (company picnic perhaps?) but having no one manning the fort is never a terribly comforting sign for an organization that could very well be neck-high in the financial tall grass. Stay tuned for more information as we have it.

It's premature to report it, but Autoblog's crew has been covering Tesla closely for past two weeks. The coverage is mostly speculation, like this story. It's fair to do. Tesla's execs have had inflated egos and slammed every major automaker for inefficiency, short-sightedness, and incompetence.

I don't know what to make of it. It could be that Tesla is reducing activity at its showrooms to cut down costs and focus on development--which has had its own problems. The Tesla reports from the auto press have not been good. I'm not going to jump into a crack about how foolish the company was. That's too easy.

Time will tell where Tesla Motors goes. At this point, it doesn't look good.

The Tesla Store in Santa Monica has always been closed Mondays... I was in town months ago and went by for a look - the hours on the door say closed Monday.

I went back Tuesday :)

So, what if things do go belly-up for Tesla? Will the headline read; 'Tesla pulls plug'?  (sorry, that was bad) . .

I don't want 'em to, Mark.  But that headline is funny--you should trademark that and then sue the hell out of the new media.  Then give me a slice of the profits.

Wow.  The Santa Monica post, if true, just shits all over this...much as how I shitted on cbrseadude's Viper as a middle-class argument just minutes ago.

That resulted in me filling up my ego and being turned on without the help of Viagra.  Segway!

... so there's a bunch of unattended Tesla roadsters sitting in there?

Tesla Motors Store, Santa Monica (310) 473-8337 Give them a call, they're OPEN today. The reason nobody was there is because they are closed on MONDAYS. Why don't you visit them again, Seyth? Say...sometime around Sunday, 3:59 AM.
