Spied: BMW 5-Series GT
In February, we showed you the BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo concept that went to Geneva (it was the one with the super long press release, remember?). Today, our spy photographer sent us these photos of the 5-Series GT testing in Munich. It appears not much has changed from the concept, which spurred much debate among our readers.

Here are some fresh photos of the production version of the BMW 5 series GT shot while testing in Munich. As we can see, the production version will be almost identical to the Concept that BMW showed us in Geneva. Only smaller changes are made.

'The Stig's' comment only goes to prove the 'axiom' that "Opinions are like A_ _ holes, everyone's got one", and are entitled to them. Personally, I disagree.
The purpose of a Grand Turismo is to allow 4 people to drive in a spirited manner in comfort at speeds not authorized by our lobotimized morons in government. Doing it on a 5 series is the best choice - not too expensive.
If you have to ask Why? - You just don't understand!
I have to admit to owning at least eleven vehicles and having good reasons for each. I will look very closely at the x-drive verion of the GT when it is released, but will not get rid of my wife's 330xi. It is too much fun!

Oh, I'll agree with you 100% that a 5 Series is probably the best car to haul 4 people in high speed comfort - but this GRAN Turismo turd is the ugliest thing to ever roll out of Munich. Why couldn't they just stick with the sedan? In fact, Maserati ought to sue BMW for using this name.

So, it's basically an X6 body on a standard 5-er suspension. The X6 is polarizing, why wouldn't this be? Certainly doesn't hold any cargo. The only reason to get this instead of a 5 series wagon is because you like the fastback look. I happen to like the look, but if I had the $ i'd have to go with a 535xi wagon.

I have the 535xi wagon and can't wait to see this, as long as there is still a manual trans and hopefully RWD in the USA. This thing is actually 14 inches longer than the current wagon and may be more useful than you think. My wife's last job required that she carry a folding clothing rack. It does not fit in the 5 without putting the seat down, but the extra length may allow it in this car.
My mother currently drives a 550i Sport, after years of 7's. Last time it was in the shop she had an X3 as a loaner and loved sitting so high, but just doesn't want a truck. BMWs press release for the GT stated that was why they are building this car! Older customers don't want to sink down into the sport sedan (probably more about getting out), but don't want to give up the BMW feel. I never thought BMW could pull off the feel in a SUV/SAV, but they did, and this seems like a better layout for performance than the Xs.
