Spy Shot: Mini Cooper S Convertible Uncovered

Mini-oriented spy shots have been coming in hot and heavy these days, with images of the Mini E mule getting some air time right before the official shots were outed, as well as exclusive first images of the production Mini Crossover. Parent BMW seems to be hitting its small car stride at just the right time, as interest in the already popular Mini brand seems to reach a new high each week.

Today our tireless shooters have caught out the 2009 iteration of the Mini Cooper S convertible with almost no disguise, save a few bars of black tape and one instance of the ever-popular, BMW paisley-swirl camouflage. The small patch of cover for the rear window likely hides the fact that Mini has done away with the previous convertible’s unsightly roll hoops, providing less conspicuous pop-up items for the new car.

The new Cooper S convertible will carry all the same engine options as the hardtop car after it makes its world debut at the North American International Auto Show in Motown this January.

Is there a Mini mania right now? Well, last week we first got you the Mini electric photos and then later on the exclusive photos of the new Mini Crossover. And this week we will start with some Mini photos as well, the Mini Cooper convertible.

These photos show a 2009 Cooper S convertible in almost showroom trim. There is just some smaller amount of tape around the rear lights, and small details. And the psychedelic tape on the rear window is just there to hide the fact that the ugly roll over bars know from the old model now are hidden and just pop up when needed.

Engine options are the same known from the Mini Cooper, meaning  the line-up will include 95 hp 1.4 liter,  120 hp 1.6 liter and 175 hp turbocharged 1.6 liter gasoline engines and a 110 hp 1.6 liter turbo diesel engine. There will also be a JCW sport package version with a 208 hp strong 1.6 liter twin-scroll turbo engine.

Debut is likely to be in Januarys Detroit Auto Show.
