Spy Shots: 2010 Hyundai Tucson Mule Spied!

Our photographers have captured the newest version of Hyundai’s small soft-roader, the Tucson, out on a shakedown test. Though the Tucson seen here is fairly well buttoned up with camo, it’s already apparent that the vehicle is a much sleeker shape than the rather ungainly current version. Big revisions can be seen in the front-end treatment, with revised bumpers, headlamps, and a shorter overhang noticeable.

Sources indicate that Hyundai will go with an all four-cylinder lineup this time for the Tucson, leaving the venerable 2.7-liter six off of the options sheet in deference to higher overall fuel economy. Tucson should offer a five-speed manual at the lower trim levels, with an autobox becoming standard in more luxurious specs.

Full details and a much better look at the Tucson will be available when Hyundai debuts the car, sometime late this year or early in 2010. Scroll down for the spy shooter’s full account.

Hyundai has dressed their new Tucson well to protect it from the cold while winter testing. Or are they trying to hide it as much as possible to us, haha.

With almost all carmakers bringing smaller SUVs to the market, one of the manufacturers with such a car in its program for a long time, Hyundai, are working on a new version of their Tucson.

Expect four-cylinder versions only, to make it at mpg friendly as possible. Of course there will be both petrol and diesel versions with an optional automatic gearbox.

Design will be more modern and sportier, even if it’s hard to tell the final design with this amount of camouflage. But we expect the new Tucson to be unveiled in late 2009 or early 2010 and then we will know.
